In 2006, Montenegro became the world’s 194th country after splitting off from Serbia. The country that received the most foreign tourists was France. USA had the most travel entries with 8799 and Australia a close second at 8184. Somalia, Guadeloupe and Sierra Leone each had only one lone entry all year!
Where was your favorite place to travel last year?

Fiji - the east side, anyway. Absolutely brilliant.
Wouldn't you love to be the one single person who visited a country in a year?

I guess I'll have a hard time finding better: MONGOLIA: for the country, and for the people (even compared to Laos and Burma).
Learn a bit with a local guide, then set off on your own by foot, horse, motorcycle or jeep... One of the only places where I experienced a frontier feel, and a very strong one!

My favorite place was Guatemala. Not that exciting or exotic though!
This year it'll likely be a toss-up between India and Iran! (hopefully!!)

i made it to Montenegro in 2006. some guys in a bar informed me that the country had recently received independence from Serbia. it still retained the currency and i think had open borders. all the Serbians head to Montenegro's coast for the beaches.
looks like i need to visit countries that are more off the beaten path. the least visited country i probably went to in 2006 was Albania, but quite a few people pass through there enroute to other destinations.
my favorite country i travelled to in 2006 would probably be Slovenia. it's small so easy to get around, good nightlife in Ljubljana, beautiful outdoor scenery and cute coastal towns.
runners-up would be Turkey, Romania and Poland.

Ecuador!!!!! We had an amazing time in Ecuador last year--a very complete trip with time spent on the beautiful windy coast in Salinas to exploring the waterfalls and trams near Baños in the mountains and then getting evacuated because a volcano erupted!!

I visited Israel this past summer. It was my thrid trip, but my 1st in over a decade and so I enjoyed it in a whole new perspective as an adult. It was also quite an experience to share it with my wife. And even more exciting in that I am Jewish and she is Catholic and together we explored all of the history and roots of our two religions. The reason for my trip was my cousin's Bar Mitzvah and so we had our own bus tour filled with our family.
The craziest part, however, was after spending a week in Jeruslame, we drove up to saty on a kibbutz in northern Israel. One of the men pulled me aside an told me that if I heard a couple of explosions or jets to calm my wife down and say it was nothing. In fact, this was the day where the two Israeli soldiers were kidnapped and taken to Lebanon. We were less than ten miles from the border on the first night of conflict. There was more than just a little noise. Bombs shook the ground all night...believe me because we couldn't sleep. In the morning I walked out on my pation and saw a ketusha missle strike down about 2 miles away. Within the hour we were all loaded on the bus and headed south. We stopped of in Haifa which was "safe" only to learn later in the day that it had been bombed too about an hour after we left.
Other than these events, the trip was amazing. We had the whole week in Jeruslame before this and learned and saw so much and the last week was in Tel Aviv and Eilat which was out of harm's way. I ended the trip with a day excusrison to Petra.
If you'd like to see my pictures of the trip then here they are:

I find it hard to believe that there was only one entry for those countries. Does that mean, in the entire year only one person who did not reside there entered the country? I find that hard to believe. Thier record keeping must just be messed up.

No it just means that we only have 1 entry from that country in TravelPods system.

Got It!
Croatia was the best for 2006! We are planning on going back and heading out to the National Park (shot! I forgot the name) inland in the country. Then hitting up some nude beaches.

I visited Cambodia at the beginning of the year and it made a huge impact on me.....a place that I will forever be in my heart. The only other place that has left that emotion is Africa.

I only travelled within my own country in 2006, my favourite trip would have been to Daylesford in Victoria, Australia.
Did a bit of bushwalking through mineral springs areas, eating local food at Koukla and The Farmers Arms...wandering around the town, just "being there", drinking wine in our little garden courtyard and relaxing...
What a gorgeous town
