Everyone loves lists. Here is your chance to contribute to the ultimate! Post your ideas for TravelPod's Official Top 100 Things to Do Before You Die list.

It can be as simple as eating a food you have never tried...or climbing a mountain or learning a new language. There is nothing to big or too small and all suggestions are welcome. If you could be sure you would achieve it, what would you attempt? With the combined intelligence we have around here, we should be able to come up with quite the compilation!

So....what is your dream?hyper.gif

hmmmm....these kinds of questions automatically make a million things start rushing through my head. I usually find it's better to go with the gut feeling, the one answer that first pops in your head, and the one that keeps revolving after five minutes of trying to come up with another one. So I'm gonna go with the one I can't shake:

Write an inspirational, unforgettable book.
whereshegoes
That is a great one!

Something I have always wanted to do:

Swim with dolphins

I did mine while I was in Japan a few years ago. Climb a mountain, (it was one of the smaller ones for us.. you know the kind that has benches and vending machines at the top?), one evening and stay there all night with a couple of your closest friends and watch the sun rise in the morning.

Amazing feeling.

I want the chance to live in another country for at least a couple of years. Preferably somewhere completely alien to life in the UK. Thinking China at the moment but thats not gonna happen for a good few years yet, well unless I suddenly come into a serious amount of money or get an amazing job offer (which isn't going to happen:( )

Meet the Dalai Lama. Go back to the wild with the animals. Have children. Live in Asia somewhere. Overcome my fears. Accept my weaknesses. Have a good relationship with my mum. Learn Aikedo. Find true inner peace. Learn how to fly a plane. Parasail. Dive the Great Barrier Reef. See Bob Dylan live...and and and.......

It's kind of a nice feeling when you see that you've done some of the things other people want to do.

My current big one is Run A Marathon (Dublin 2007).

Also, it seems to naff to say but...Get Married and Have Kids.

I know! I love seeing other people's lists. (Hence my addiction to the 43things website.) It's also fun to be inspired by others lists as well. I think everyone should make their own list. My list (here's a link to it) is a little long, but here's a few of mine that I've yet to accomplish.

- Watch the sun rise from the middle of the ocean
- see a wild tiger
- smell the sweetest flower
- help/volunteer at an elephant sancutary
- learn to surf
- grow a tree
- Fly in a bi-plane
- visit a nude beach

So many of you have done so much! Consider me inspired. It would be a crime not to aim for a long term round the world adventure. My current situation does not allow for more than short excursions, but it would be great to try something more involved. Even to work in another country for awhile. I would love to see Scotland, or be in Ireland for St. Paddys! I bet there aren't too many kiss me I'm Irish T-shirts there?

I've been thinking about this one for a while, about what I've done and what I'd love to do. There are still far too many things and I wonder sometimes whether there are enough years left.

For me, for now, diving in Antarctica. Now that would be mindblowing..

I want to learn another language. I hope it's not too late.
whereshegoes
Its never too late. My nephews are creating a new language as we speak;)
Caro!
Ahhh how could I not metione it before: Belly dance in Morroco with a tribe of women while the drummer plays the best he has ever played. I just see it, candelabro in my head, sanke close by to put it on my hips when the time to shimmey comes, my shinny coin belt, my long skirt, and my favorite belly dance top,

YALA!!!!!

Kati, this is one of the best yet! I have to admit that the Northern Lights (as we call them here in Canada) have to be my favorite thing to experience. There is nothing that comes even close. It is magical and mystical and spiritual and beautiful and inspiring.

i think everyone should visit another culture completely different from their own. in this day, it would be good to make most westerners visit the middle east to see they really are nice people.
or just go anywhere the US State Dept says you shouldn't go.

i missed my chance to swim with dolphins in NZ 'cuz i was sick. crying_anim.gif hopefully another chance will come along.

I'd like to dwell within a Buddhist temple in Nepal, where I can learn about the monks and about their religion. I wonder if they'd let women in.....?

My wife and I are working towards not being forgotten two days after we die.

So these are some of our things to do before I die:
- Have a good life.
- make lots of friends (always in progress)
- Make a family tree (done back to the 1800's and continually updated)
- Write a book (I am looking into writing some technical articles and maybe a tech book).
- Leave stories, memories and breadcrumbs for our kids, grandkids, and their kids (hence travelpod).

and the most important thing we'd like to do before we die is:
Live a long life!!!!
His Royal Monkeyness
this made me realize maybe i should have a list. ...but i made two lists - one for regular life stuff and one for travel. i'll have to check out other people's ideas to try to get my list up to 100 though. hopefully it'll help me to accomplish more instead of sitting talking to the cat. poke.gif
apparently BBC did a poll a few years back and came up with a Top 50 as voted on by people. i can't say i entirely agree (like why Florida made it) and a couple are a little vague (South Island - NZ??). Here it is:

- Galapagos Islands — Ecuador
- Luxor — Egypt
- Rome

Wakingdream - Yeah, another one of mine is to send a message in a bottle. But I've figured that'll have to send quite a few to ever stand a chance to get an answer!

That BBC list of 50 things had some REALLY random stuff on it.

People have often said that having a list of 50 or 100 things to do before you die is a bit too organised and restrictive. I disagree strongly - my list has done nothing but inspire me to do more and take on more challanges. There's no better feeling than ticking something off your list and after a few years you can look back and see how far you've come!

Haha! Yeah, I figure I have the rest of my life so I will just try at every good opportunity! Can you imagine, though, how cool it would be to actually get a response?
I've never actually made a written list, but I think I have always had an ongoing one in a way, and there are constantly things being added to it. I follow my heart, that's where my list is.
dym888
A lot of awesome suggestions.

Here is a list of my top 10 in no particular order:

1. Attend a World Cup game
2. The Great Wall of China
3. Be an extra in a movie
4. Complete a marathon
5. Skydive
6. Taj Mahal in India
7. The Roman Coliseum
8. Live abroad for a year
9. Attend the Olympics
10. Learn another language

I would love to see Machu Pichu. While I'm down there I'll start with the Gallopogos Islands and why not tour the entire continent. Only been to Colombia so far in S America.

Hey Carm, I've kinda done that! Made up songs, usually when drinking, thus a common theme I'm afraid. Don't really know music, so can't play along. I'll sing you one some time. More fun if your drinking too, FYI.
Everyone's list is more 'adventurous' than mine. I got an offer re: learning another language. My sister in law is willing to teach me Romanian. Just have a hard time imagining that coming in real handy though. Can sing along with Dragosta din tea now though...the Numa song you may know it as. so, you know...I'm making real productive use of my time at home.

OOh, skimmed back and read about the message in bottle...Never done it,
BUT, went to see my sister in Victoria this summer, and we FOUND a message in a bottle. It was hilarious, the note basically made fun of the message in a bottle idea. It was a joke message mocking the finder. Awesome!

How 'bout travel tips? And your blog address? New way to meet people to be sure. Toss on! You can't recycle EVERY bottle.

That message in the bottle sorry was very humorous. Thanks for sharing. I may have to try that this weekend when I drive out to the beach. Although, if I saw a bottle floating in the water I don't know that I would even think to pick it up and look inside.

You asked a good question though...what would be one's message to put inside? Now I have something to think about!

kati, I live in Canada and have witnessed the Northern Lights many times a most magical experience it inspired me to write this poem
A.

AURORAS BOREALIS

The night descends and the show begins.
The pulsing clouds of
filmy arcs of light on
the northern horizon.

I watch in awe goose bumps
running down my arms…

The dance in the sky
billowing and swirling
like a woman’s skirt
the colors of a rainbow
propelled by some
distant cosmic wind...

I feel eternal, smitten, exhilarated …

The sky stays alive with rolling
luminescence called coronal auroras.
Decided structure and hues converge
disappear and reaper giving the sensation
of sound and reverberation.

It is magical, spiritual, wondrous….

Again and again in an intense display
the undulating veils are over powered
by swirling fluttering clouds that lurch
over the sky in a matter of seconds
in shades of red, green, and violet
lasting from a few minutes to an hour.

The atmosphere around me feels
supernatural and scared…

This is truly one of nature’s greatest spectacles
I feel fortuned and blest.

This is a very interesting thread! I am currently doing research for a new Canadian television series that will be on this exact topic! I am looking for people in the Toronto area who have a list and might be interested in participating in a television show (maybe tick off a couple of list items in one go if one of them happens to be 15 minutes of fame)!

If you are interested, please email me at 1001thingssubmissions@nextfilm.ca

Maybe this sounds stupid, but travel as much as I can and see as much of the world as I can.

Also at the top of this list is:

Have Children

Become a known writer, not well know, necessarily, just known
