next trip for us will hopefully be Canada June/July 2012 ( approx dates and lenght of trip) and ideally renting a decent motorhome/campervan. All suggestions on where to start, what to see and where to finish would be welcome. And recommendations on rental companies. we definately want to do the Rockies etc

In my blog I have described a route through the Rockies I took earlier this year as part of a 2 month excursion to North America. The Rockies tour was a round trip from Vancouver and by hired car and hotel: I know your proposed trip is a little different, but my experience may give you some ideas.

One part I will do differently on another visit will be the direction of travel on the Icefields Parkway. The dramatic effect of the scenery is, in my opinion, a function of the distance from Banff. It's all pretty amazing, but I would suggest South (Banff) to North (Jasper) will keep your jaw dropping all the way. (It's a bit like the canyons of the SW USA: best to see the smaller ones first and end with the Grand Canyon for maximum effect).

Anyway, wherever you go in the area you will be impressed. Have a great time.

G'day I agree with John to get the best out of the road trip come back from Baniff and head to jasper the scenery will enthral you we were lucky we did it by coach so did not have to worry about missing a thing, If you get to Calgary a quick trip to a couple of places Drumhellier and smashed in head Buffolo jump if you have a look at my blog around the world in 77days look for the canadian section it will give u some ideas we also found it cheaper if u are like us not tent people to actually rent a condo if u are in an area for a week we paid $1100 for a 7night stay in a condo compared to $2000 for a hotel i used this site it is actually the owners u deal with not rental agencies and they are world wide http://www.vrbo.com/ and and 2 months in Canada is like here in oz u see a tip and that is it good luck and keep on blogging
