Which destinations could you miss-never visit in your life-and never blink an eye over?

I can't think of any place I've regretted visiting. There are a few place I regretted, when I arrived, but hated to leave.

I've always been interested in-yet never really felt a major draw like I have to other places-to the U.S., Africa and Australia. The first just doesn't appeal to me at all. The latter two I find really interesting yet there's nothing inside me that is pushing me to go to those places.
I could easily miss some European countries. I guess when it comes down to it, most of us are going to be limited to the number of countries we'll visit over a lifetime anyway....

There are some U.S. cities I don't really care for, but I won't list them so as to not offend anybody :-) Other than that, I'm like polydemic, I can't think of many places I regretted visiting.

I think I could die happy without going to Antarctica. It's cold enough in Canada already, and I've had lots of that over my lifetime!

I have to agree with you here both because of the cold and because my favorite thing about travel is meeting people, so why would I want to go somewhere with no permanent population?

Good point...great scenery, but boring... not to mention the environmental impact... it's a fragile place!

No way man...it's one of the last remaining "wild" places on earth. The raw power of nature in such a place would be thrilling to see. It is totally on my short list of places to travel to next!

I'm with Matt. I definitely want to go to Antactica at some point. It's not on my short list, but it's definitely on my list of "places to see before I die." It also helps, that I much prefer the cold instead of the heat :-)

I think for me everything is on a scale. Some places I want to go to more than others. Some would be way down on the list. But I wouldn't necessarily say I would NEVER want to go there. Never say never, you know?

I would definitely not include in my list and don't care at all about the far eastern Turkey.
However, I am interested in visiting the neighbouring Turkey and like very much the people there.

Besides, most of those places belonged to Greeks in ancient times.
All those ancient monuments like Ephesus, and the one my friend Manzara posted recently were Greek, and now the Turks have them.
For me visiting these places, is like a pilgrim.
And my second No, goes to Antartica. The excellent video which we had on the forums from Antartica was enough for me. I would not feel good in very cold weather. Besides it was so informative that you could see everything in just minutes.

For me it would be certain more isolated countries in central Africa [e.g. the Congo] and western Africa on a whole - definitely doing southern, though.
I've also never really felt any kind of draw to India and pretty much all of the 'stans, mega cultural and historical yes but it just doesn't interest me like the rest of the world does.

There are several places I don't feel the "need" to go before I go to the big travel lodge in the sky but just to make things perfectly clear - that doesn't mean I won't go.
Some of the best places I've been to were afterthoughts, mistakes or just joining someone because they wanted to go.

Must-miss list? I've no such thing. I've learned that even the most boring places can be interesting while the most interesting places can be boring... it's about being there with the right people and the right time or simply meeting the right people and doing the right things.
Thank you!

I see what you're saying and kind of agree but on the other hand not. I suppose though, that anything on my must-miss list are places that I went to for a reason and decided only afterwards that I could've skipped it. So, perhaps every place is worthy of a visit even if just to see for yourself that it might not have been worth it!

I would go anywhere, the question is for how long of a stay before I have had enough. The first time I go anywhere I find it amazing. I have been amazed by the emptiness around me in the middle of Kansas and even stopped the car to stare at the nothingness for 5 minutes, then cursed the several more hours of nothingness that I had to endure before I got somewhere else (my apologies to those in KS, not all of KS is like that)

Los Angeles was for me a scary place to walk .....
As soon as we reached the Holiday Inn, many people in the group were robbed.
Later on we were told by our tour guide to avoid going out as individuals but walk in small groups. I remember we had dinner somewhere away from the hotel, but on our way back it was already midnight and we were walking with friends, we were really scared seeing 3 tough guys approaching us!
Of course these things can happen to other places and I can't blame LA . It was to happen I think, but honestly speaking I don't care if I ever visit LA again or not.

Okay, so here's a question to consider;
If you had the choice-and if you had something like a magic fairy wand-would you choose to have only good experiences in great places? Ooooor, even if you had the ability to make it all happen like aces, do you think that the "bad" places and "bad" experiences have a benefit?
Interested in your thoughts.......

Of course, without bad there is no good.
I love movies and my wife asked me once how come, when I see a movie I don't care for, I still watch it?
My answer was that if I don't watch bad movies once in a while, I'll never see good movies.

That's pretty much how I feel too but i think there are others who have much less tolerance for the "bad" BUT, just to play devil's advocate, since we can already distinguish good from bad, than would you knock out those 'bad' experiences and places and travel blissfully for the rest of your life?

It depends on the investment. When I go on a trip, I have spent months anticipating, planning and saving. Getting time free to travel is not so easy, so when you are spending not only your money but your limited vacation time on a spot that is hell it is especially disappointing. I had that once at an awful resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica, but I bailed out after the first night and found a much better small remote place elsewhere on the island.

As long as I can help it, I will never visit a desert. I hate heat and they look so nasty desolate and painfully uncomfortable to me. I know that there are many people who love deserts and that there is a lot of life there, my Mom being one, but to me they look just horrific.

You're lucky you could find another place. Did you get any of your money back??
99% of the time I plan everything really well ie paperwork up until departure and then generally leave it all up to chance from then on. I recently went on a last-minute vacation, and though the destination wasn't hell, there were tons of things about the experience that weren't especially desirable. In a way, I wish I could have bailed but our son loved it so that made me happy.
That's too true, When time is limited, spending time in 'hell' is especially torturous. When you have a longer period, it's much easier to get over it and just move on.

Any African country north of Kenya and south of Morocco (except maybe Ghana)
Saudi Arabia

Emma, I guess if you know how to travel cleverly some of these trips don't cost much.
I know many who are on a low budget and yet they are out travelling using buses, trains, stay in hostels or houses. It depends on your work as well and what you leave behind.
But between us, short trips are also fun, and there are times that we dream of distant destinations and yet the beauty is out there where we are and we just cannot appreciate it because we live there and we got used to it.
Am I wrong?
