Canal Days celebration in Port Colborne is Civic Holiday Weekend (July31-Aug.3).
A concert in Market Square will have Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings (from the Guess Who). Tickets are $37 includes an opening blues act at www.ticketweb.ca (19+) Aug.1.
The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum opened up a new season this weekend with the presentation of a rideable replica of the 1901 Benton Neff’s Steam Buggy. More displays and exhibits are at the museum from the area, featured for 2009:
A display will feature a ‘model’ of the original Bluenose schooner that was carved out of a single block of wood by Ken Shepherd, who lived in Port Colborne.
An exhibit will illustrate weaving and textile making, that are from the area, like quilts, mats, coverlets, linens, and clothing. (Wabasso had a factory in Welland).
Another display will have the hockey jersey, hockey stick, and gloves of the former Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team captain Teeder Kennedy who was a Port Colborne native.
