Hello everyone,

I'm a young 36 year old, travelling to Tanzania and Zanzibar in August with my daughter who is almost 8 years old and mature for her age. We were due to go on a lion conservation programme but have been let down by the company and lost a lot of money to them.

I have backpack full of safari type gear, swamp boots, sleeping bags.. etc (no tent) and now have no safari or African experience where I can use it!. This is what I will still be bringing and so i really need to do something which required this gear! I will not be equipped for a hotel/beach holiday.

This is ideally what we would like to do;

Spend one week working with wildlife - either in the wild or in an orphanage etc
Spend 3 days with a village tribe and experience the local school
Spend 2 days with a traditional urban family
Spend 3 days camping in the wild.

Anyone who can help with any of these things or any other suggestions, please contact me. Id be so grateful. We arrive in 5 weeks and now have no plan.

I am sorry to hear that you were let down and taken advantage of. What area of Tanzania would you be, ideally? Near Dar es Salaam or near Moshi/ Arusha? I can think of an organization off the top of my head that I only know from their website but seem to be just what you are looking for. It is called the Livingston Tanzania Trust (http://www.livingstontanzaniatrust.com). As I mentioned, I only know them through their website but they seem to be well established. The toughest thing will be to find a good project dealing with animals that will accept such a short volunteer stay. The other items on the list are very easy to find.
