Hi, I am new here. I like traveling all over the world. Although I am from Japan, I am in the United States now. I love to know about different countries.

Now I am thinking to travel to Ireland because I watched new Irish indie movie called Red Roses and Petrol in screening.

I didn't know about Ireland at all. But I want to taste real whiskey and know irish culture now because of the movie.

So does anyone who has been to Ireland tell me about Ireland????

kathryn77 knows a lot about Scotland, she might know about Ireland too.

Until she sees this thread, I'll direct you to some awesome Ireland blogs where you can read up about it:

Hey! You're in luck because I just moved to Dublin, but have visited loads before as well! I have also been to Cork, Shannon on the west and know about Donegal too as I have family from there. Also have some family from Northern Ireland too. What do you want to do, when do you want to go, what do you want to see?? Ireland is beautiful!! I haven't seen that film, but there is loads to do and see - give me some timescales and things and what you're most interested in......

Hi Miporin,

Ireland is definitely worth a visit! I have traveled around Ireland a lot and lived there also and the country has so much to offer.

You have the rustic side with the wildness of the Atlantic ocean, the cliffs etc. on the West coast (Clare, Galway), there are some really amazing beaches (a lot in Donegal and around West Cork in the South), lots of mountains and lakes in the South West (Kerry), Fermanagh (lots of lakes).

You can take a ferry or a small plane from Galway or Clare to the Aran Islands (the place where the fisherman's sweaters come from). You will definitely experience live musicians playing traditional music and see some live Irish dancing there.

The cities are very cosmo - lots of shopping, nice restaurants, night life. Lots of history and culture, art, theater etc. The people are very friendly especially in the country areas where you will get the odd salute from a farmer who is moving sheep from one field to another across a country road (yes.....the postcards that you see are for real...I've seen it myself!)

If you are living in the USA the Irish national airline company Aer Lingus and I think maybe Delta airlines too, have direct flights from New York, Boston, LA and some other cities quite regularly. After you have traveled around Ireland it is easy to travel to other parts of Europe like the U.K. and France (by ferry) and you can get some really cheap flight deals to other major European cities from Dublin, Belfast, Cork etc.

I came across a good site there recently with information on Ireland. It is called http://www.lodgeireland.com and it has a section called 'about ireland' which gives you some information on food, getting there etc. The tourism offices in the cities are very helpful too when you are traveling around.

I don't know about tasting real whiskey (it's a bit too strong for me to drink straight), however having some in an 'Irish Coffee', now that's even better! dance.gif

Have a good trip!

Though I haven't done extensive traveling in Ireland, I definitely recommend the west coast (Galway area). Especially if you are a nature loving person. The landscape is absolutely beautiful and the Irish hospitality is great!!!

I would definitely recommend you doing a bit of research before going though so that you know what exactly it is you're looking for, however, upon arrival there are many people that would give you advice on where you could find the best Irish music, good food, great shopping areas etc.

Hope you have a good time, it's a gorgeous country!!!

Hi,

Ok so I'm totally late getting onto this thread but I think the best website for Ireland is www.discoverireland.ie as it gives all upcoming festivals as well as places to visit, stay and eat etc.

Enjoy!

To try not to quote a more famous saying, my immediate thought on this was...

"For buying tickets for travel there's mastercard...
.....for knowledge on destinations there's travelpod"
