Also does anyone have any suggestions of blogging sites you know that work down there for sure? I was kind of looking for something..cooler like tumblr. But im pretty sure tumblr doesnt work down there

TravelPod works just fine in China but as you suggested, it appears that Tumblr is blocked. I am not familiar with Tumblr but if you are looking for a travel blog site then TravelPod definitely has some advantages such as the route map. And of course, there are also the forums you can post travel questions to for advice while you are on the road.

Happy travels and blogging! smile.gif

You will find Facebook blocked but no problems with Hotmail.

As for shipped post, that could take some time although I have no personal experience. Hopefully, somebody else can give you a better idea for the actual time.

Sorry Bailjam,

Totally using your forum for more internet advice, thanks & I hope you have a great time in China!!!

Thanks too to those that answered my questions! If Facebook is blocked, does anyone know a good networking site like facebook that I can get my friends & family to join too so we can keep in touch as simple as Facebook? Something like Facebook to share pics etc...

Thanks,
Annie

Well, the most obvious is to use TP. You can post your thoughts and pics and your family can make comments.

Another alternative is to get a VPN, which you will probably need to pay a bit for, but which will enable you to access Facebook and Youtube in China.

I used Travelpod when I was there. Works great except out west in Xinjiang where ALL internet is blocked. I Xian they had directions to get on facebook posted on the wall of the hostel (Han Tang) but you could only see and not post anything. sorry i dont remember the site.

Windows Live also works in China. It has photo sharing, blog space, friend updates and the like. Or you could go Chinese and use 163.com or QQ. Not sure they have English versions though unsure.gif

BTW - Internet should be accessible in Xinjiang now.
