I'm interested in learning Chinese in Taiwan, but I'm not having much luck finding information on doing so. I've found one website that's been somewhat informative, however a friend of mine in Taipei is telling me that, despite what the page suggests, Chung Hua University does not have a Taipei branch. I'm not adverse to learning in other cities, but I have reasons irrelevant to this question for preferring to study in the capital.

To that end I'm trying to find a school in Taipei where I can learn Chinese. This should not be difficult I'd imagine, but I'm mostly concerned with being able to get a Visa extension so I won't be thrown out of the country before finishing the course. I assume finding work would be the easiest way around that. Problem is I'm not much of a teacher myself, but what other work is there for a foreigner with only a basic grasp of the local language? I don't need to get rich; I just need to survive.

Hi there! There is a website www.tealit.com and that has a classifieds section. It's quite easy to find a 'language exchange' buddy in Taiwan. Usually a Taiwanese person wants to practice their English or lean more and in exchange they teach you Chinese. It's good because you're not paying for a class and you get more control over what you learn.
You can also find a private tutor.

Teaching English is the way to go in Taiwan. Sometimes there are companies looking for models and actors and stuff...if you're a good looking person you can easily find work. Other than that...not many jobs out there unless you speak Chinese fluently.

Good luck!
