Hello!

We are heading to Australia in mid June and already have Working Holiday visas- we would like to know if anyone (Canadian) has done this before because we do not know what to expect. We were thinking about the vineyards (mainly in Margaret River)- has anyone done this? What should we expect in terms of wages? How does the tax system work down under? Did you make enough to live and explore the rest of Australia? Is it worth calling in advance or could we just apply once in Australia?

We are running short on time so any information, suggestions, or experiences will be appreciated!

Thanks

Randy and Laurie

Hi Randy and Laurie, I don't know much about this, but I know some people who picked apples in New Zealand and Australia.

They didn't get paid very much, but room and board was always included. They made enough to explore Australia, of course, you always have enough money to explore, if you really want to. But granted, they were also huge hippies.

I would definitely try and make some contact before you leave. It's always better to have important decisions made already, so that you can concentrate on getting settled in, etc. etc.

Hi Randy and Laurie for Australian Taxation questions you should visit the Australian Taxation website at ATO

My advice would be to go there and get yourselves out there. Things will fall into place, they always do. Once you start talking to people who are there doing it or who've done it you'll know exactly the right spots to target and exactly how to play the game so you make the most money under the best conditions. I really wouldn't worry too much at this stage. If you've got a WHV you've got time on your hands. Enjoy it..
