Well, until I was 29 I lived in various places in the UK. I was born in Durham in the North and used to go shopping in Newcastle all the time (great city). Then moved to Bradford, West Yorkshire - still relatively North. Rented places in Haworth (middle of the countryside where the Bronte family grew up), Saltaire (home of David Hockley artist), and Cleckheaton - a very Yorkshire name!

Then I moved to Nottingham - heading a bit further South - more like the Midlands of England actually. My fella is from Portsmouth so have headed South a lot to see his family.

At 29 I moved to Japan and lived in various parts of Tokyo until 2006. Then off to Singapore for a year (sorry but I really didn't like it!). After many disasters went back to the UK (to my brothers house near Wales), then finally returned to Tokyo - awesome place! - in 2007 and am still here.

Holy schniekies, you're all over the place. That's so awesome. How long do you think you'll be staying in Tokyo?

Definitely be here for a couple more years at least - I think...

The travels to South America will begin next year - kicking off with Brazil if all goes to plan. We are thinking about buying a wee place in either Italy or Brazil- but have to do the ground work and see if we 'really' like it as much as we think we will before be bite the bullet. Or maybe it's just another excuse to travel yes.gif

Born and raised in Alaska with an off year at age 4 in Tucson, Arizona but that was so long ago that only a couple memories can be conjured. The favorite is divided between Anchorage and Nome, which is a tough call both being extremes for living. Plus they are the only two places I've lived in to date. You got Los Anchorage, which is as much Alaskan now as KFC is to chicken and has a population that is 1/2 million and doesn't have the AK hometown feel and great outdoors. Yet it has malls, costco and all those modern conveniences plus it is connected to a major highway so you drive away when you like. Then that brings up Nome which is only a town of 4000 and is off the beaten path. Which only has 3 roads, each ending at 60 miles and the only way in or out is by plane unless you're a die hard dog musher. But for being outdoors and getting to see some amazing sunsets, it's hard to beat. Plus if you have the toys a.k.a fourwheeler, snowmachine and boat you can have a blast hunting, fishing and camping. Though the worst part of Nome imo is the lack of sun in the winter with some days having 1-2 hours of sunlight max and it can get cold being so close to the arctic circle. As long as I can leave Nome for part of the winter and have my toys, Nome offers a freedom that's hard to find. Nome: Winner... for now.

What do you do every winter to beat the darkness blues?

Go traveling tongue.gif J/K. Most of the locals resort to drinking and drugs, but when I lived here year round, I either played a lot of videos games or went snowmachining in the hills. Plus snowboarding/snowskating were other winter activities. There was also High school, which I dedicated my time to getting good grades so it would be easier in college. The snowmachining was the best since you could use it to buddy up for snowboarding, go hunting or just enjoy the ride in the mountains. Though the last 3 years have been different with moving away and going to college further south. Now the only time I return to Nome is for the summer months to work the construction season.

I was very lucky to spend some of my time at Uni studying in Charleston, South Carolina.

I fell in love with the place, have managed to go back a few times since and hook up with my old classmates etc.

I adore Charleston. Really, really fantastic place.

I've gone ice fishing a couple of times, but I never have much luck. Which is odd, since in the summer time, I catch a ton of fish. Maybe it's the mentality, for some reason ice fishing isn't as fun for me. I think it's because of the cold from not moving much and the worry you might fall through the ice.

We go once a year, but we fish out of nice, warm and cozy huts. It's pretty good. Then we have a tasty fish fry. Mmmmm!

But Vietnam is pretty awesome in itself, isn't it?

I was your typical army brat with my father in the army so I've lived all over the place; US, Southeast Asia, Europe, never Africa though, but I plan to someday.

That's awesome, welcome to the forums. Do you speak a whole bunch of languages because of that?

It's a fantastic little city. Real pretty streets and houses; loads of parks and waterfront walks; tons of History - was where the Civil War started; great weather; great locals and all round nice place to live and study.

Hehehe cool, I totally get it. I'm seeing images of Scarlet O'Hara on her front porch, sipping mint iced tea, right now.

Thats pretty much the image they sell, yeah. Although I believe that Gone With the Wind was based in Savannah, which is much the same.
