An annoying trend is making an appearance in Marrakesh and I feel I must speak out. Apparently before entering a cab, foriegners are regulary negotiating the price for rides within the city limits. While I agree that many things must be negotiated in Morroco and the rest of North Africa, petit-taxis are not one of those things. The meter will always be cheaper. Anywhere within the city limits will come to 25 dirhams (at the most) but on average about 10 dirhams or less. Because so many foriegners now try to bargain rates (which will always be too high) Marrakeshi cab drivers are beginning to expect that foriegners will pay more for rides. Stop the madness, demand that the driver turn on the meter. In French, " Utilisez le compteur s'il vous plait!"

Good tip, is this what the locals do?

Sometimes you think you are getting a good deal, just because you bartered with someone, when in fact, it's better not to!
