I was just cruising the travel blogs and came across this horrifying "fire cupping" treatment a backpacker got in Tibet...

Apparently, some people believe that if you put burning cups onto your back, it will help get rid of toxins and provide a relaxing experience... It will also leave visible marks on your back for three weeks!

Wow...anybody ever done something like this before? Or gotten more than they bargained for in a spa treatment?

Yes, it’s also called"Ba Huo Guan”, it is know for many Chinese people .I think it's very useful to relax one's body, or sometimes it can even get rid of the ills. My parents often do this to

I'm not sure what cutting a girlfriends name into your hand has to do with the topic, but whatever.

What the guy in the blog wrote about is called "cupping" and I have had it done many times. It is not painful and the cups are not on fire.

What the doctor does is take a specially made cup (they're made of glass now, but were originally bamboo), light a piece of paper and drop it into the cup than stick it to your back, or leg, or wherever the ailment is. It works like the boiled egg into the milk bottle that we did in high school science class. The smoking paper creates a vacuum which sticks the cup onto your back. It doesn't hurt, but it does leave funny looking hickeys all over your back.

I don't know how it works, but it really does seem to. I have been having muscle problems for years and the cupping really helps a lot. I have it done every few months.
