[font=Verdana]We are planning our return trip home from Australia currently and as well as going to Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos we have been really interested in what Burma seems to have to offer. However some travel journals are suggesting that it is a very dangerous country to visit. If you have been there can you let us know what you think of it........

Hi. I have only been inside to a limited extent. No danger.

Want to see more.

From what I have read in here by others - many would tell you to go.
From another friend of mine - he said it was the friendliest country he had ever visited.

So let's see what others say.

1. YES IT IS SAFE, BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND THAT SOME OF THE PRODUCTS THEY SELL IN THE MARKET OF TACHILIEK, BURMA ARE ILLEGAL... NEVER, NEVER BUY ANY PIRATED DVD'S, IVORY, DRUGS, WEAPONS, TIGER OR LEOPARD SKIN AND CROSS THE BORDER TO THAILAND OR YOU MAY END UP IN JAIL OR BEING FINED BY BURMESE CUSTOMS... I TELL YOU IT'S A BIT SCARY BUT YOU HAVE TO BE CONFIDENT WHEN APPROACHING THEM, ESPECIALLY THOSE GUYS WITH BASKETS SELLING VIAGRA AND WHATEVER SEX PRODUCTS THAT IS, BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER GO AWAY... YOU HAVE TO TELL THEM TO GO AWAY OR YOU CALL THE POLICE...

2. WHEN THEY ASK YOU IF YOU WANT TO SEE SOME TOURIST SPOTS LIKE LONG NECK VILLAGE OR A TEMPLE, IT WILL ONLY COST YOU 200 BATH BACK AND FORTH BY A "TUK-TUK" CORRECT ME IF I SPELLED IT WRONG... AND TELL THEM TO WAIT FOR YOU OUTSIDE WHEN YOU GO INSIDE A TEMPLE, OR GOING UP IN THE HILL TO SEE THE LONG NECK PEOPLE...

4. IF YOU COME FROM THAILAND AND CROSS BURMA FOR A VISA RUN , I ADVISE YOU TO STUFF YOUR STOMACH BEFORE GOING IN BURMESE TERRITORY... BECAUSE FOOD IN BURMA IS NOT THAT SAFE ASIDE FROM CANNED FOOD OR A DRINK... AND ALWAYS BUY FOOD FROM TRUSTED BRANDS.
