I'm planning to travel to Switzerland, Austria and Czech this summer, chances are on my own. Tentatively, it would be from 26th June to 13th July.

Is Austria safe for a single female traveller? Is there anybody out there who is heading to Austria as well during the summer?

Are the hostels in Austria pretty good or should I opt for Bed and Breakfasts?

I've done my homework pretty much on Switzerland but I'm having difficulty trying to plan my itinerary for Austria. I'm planning to spend around 5 to 6 days in Austria. From the readings that I've done, the most recommended places to visit in Austria would be Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck. But I'm planning to visit Bad Ischl, Melk, Mittenwald and perhaps Graz/Klagenfurt.

Does anybody has any recommendation how much time should I spend at each of these cities?

I'll be travelling mostly by train but some of the places that I wish to go to e.g. castles and lakes, are pretty much out of the way from train stations & routes.

Can anybody give me some advice on how to reach some of the castles from the nearest towns?

I'm pretty much interested in sceneries, people and culture.

What are the things/activities that I should do/watch while in Austria?

Hopefully somebody out there could help me out.

I was in Hungary/Austria on a business trip in 2002 and the last day, I parted from the group and took a train from Budapest to Vienna by myself. The week prior, I had taken that same trip with 2 other coworkers, but I had an extra few days at the end of the conference. So I spent a day in Vienna and it was beautiful. I did not have any issues traveling by myself there. I seem to remember that 1 day was enough to see quite a bit in Vienna.
