I am thinking about planning a short trip to Dikili, Turkey in July...is it a nice place to go?

I have only made one brief visit to Dikili some years ago. There is a crescent-shaped ropugh sandy beach and a promenade lined with cafes and restaurants. Cruise ships occasionally dock at the harbour for passengers to visit Bergama (the ancient city of Pergamon) just 30kms to the east and Ayvalık, about 30kms to the north.

A few years ago it could be described as 'undiscovered' but it's becoming more popular. However, it's a pleasant spot to spend some time. The Merkez Mosque is worth seeing; a rare example of a wooden construction dating from 1789 having been built without using any nails in the construction.

You may also want to consider the nearby small fishing port and resort of Çandarlı about 10kms south. My impressions were of a well-kept, welcoming town which reflected pride in the place. The beach is course sand and there is a lively market of Fridays. The oldest building in Çandarlı is the perfectly restored 14th Century Genoese fortress.

Your nearest airport for this area would be İzmir (Adnan Menderes), approximately 110kms to the south.

Do let me know if I can help with any more detailed information.
