If you are only away for 5-6 days i'd suggest you will only have time to do bangkok and 1 island. Travel in Thailand is easy but is slow.

What would you like to do? Is it partying, sight seeing, walking, food, diving? Every island is good for different things.

There are places easier to get to depending what you want to do. Pattaya is 1 hour from bangkok, Koh Chang is 3-4 hours- these may be better for you.

5-6 days is too short to visit Thailand where has many places to see. Anyway it's good time for you to the beach. about your plan I recommend you like this way to save your time:

BKK take bus or flight to Suratthani or Koh Samui it's the one island in Suratthani then you can easy to go around by ferry to the other island near by Koh Tao the best place to diving both of scuba and skinning then Kho Phangan where is the big party "Full moon" if you like the party , drink and dance along the beach then the same boath will left you at MooKho Angthong ,the nature park you can hiking to the top you will face the good panorama veiw of the sea That's one day trip or over night there and come back to Samui again.

Welcome to Thailand

That's great to hear. It's my note for the next trip.

Trekking with your group sounds like a great opportunity Lunthom

all beaches at Samui is good, Chaweng is popular and many hotels luxury.
For me Lamai is good.
