There's a daily overnight train from Delhi to Jaisalmer which takes around 18 hours - you can book in advance on www.cleartrip.com which is much easier that the Indian Railways website and certainly easier than queuing at a reservation window. Or you could split the journey by going to Bikaner first and seeing the rat temple - that's roughly 12 hours, then 7 on to Jaisalmer. Roads are not for the faint hearted. Or you could fly which is quicker but costly and of course you don't see Indian life.

In Jaisalmer, I can recommend Ganesh Travels (inside the fort) for an overnight camel safari into the desert - magical!
