Hi!

We want to go across to Mexico, from San Diego when we're there.. I know everyone goes to Tijuana, but really I think we just want somewhere a bit.. quainter. Somewhere with not too much of a party atmosphere, where we could just stay for a week or so, on a nice beach, with perhaps a few nice things to see around.

Don't want to go too far from San Diego - I don't think my friend would manage much more than about 5 hours on a bus away. Does anyone have any suggestions?! Or is Sonora nicer? I imagine it wouldn't take too long to get to some of the northern places in Sonora?

Hello Brypi,

Why don't you continue on down to Ensenada. I agree that Tijuana is not everyone's cup of tea. It's very lively, but is basically an exotic day trip for Southern Californians to do things they are not allowed to do in the U.S. Have a look at Wikipedia's page on Ensenada, which is only about 75 miles south of the U.S./Mexican border, and the official Ensenada city website (in Spanish). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ensenada%2C_Baja_California.

Indeed Sonora is not really an option from California, though it's popular with Arizonans, as it has the nearest beach to Phoenix.

I have also heard that Mexicali and Rocky Point (also known as Puerto Penasco) are also very pretty. Mexicali is 120 miles from San Diego, while Rocky Point is closer to the Arizona side. Good luck!

i like rosa rito. if you're traveling in a big group i'd suggest renting out a house. we had one right on the beach. 7 girls and we shelled out $100 each to rent for the entire weekend.

travel down the coast and you can get 2 jumbo lobsters for like $14. i love rosa rito.
