Is the Visa on arrival still being done in Laos......... or do I have to get a visa from before?????

The official websites dont say anything about this...

It does depend on the crossing you do though. I went from Chiang Kong in north Thailand to Huay Xai in Laos, and you can get a visa on arrival there, however I know the crossing a few hours south required you to have it in advance (can't remember the name of the place, sorry!) You will need a passport photo as well and will pay about $30 - it depends on where you're from, but that's the average price.

huay xai, and nong khai across from vientiane both do visa on-arrival. both can be a drag though, so getting it before can save time.

My one at Huay Xin only took about 10 minutes to process....I might have just been there on a quiet day though....

All what you need to know about entry points and visa :

Air access
Laos has three International Airport :
- Wattay International Airport in Vientiane Capital. Cities with directs flight to Vientiane/Wattay Airport are Bangkok, Chiengmai, Phnom Penh, Siemreap, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Chiang Mai, Kunming, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
- Luang Prabang International Airport in Luang Prabang Province. Cities with directs flight to Luang Prabang International Airport are Bangkok, Chiengmai and Hanoi,.
- Pakse International Airport in Champasack Province. Cities with directs flight to Pakse International Airport are Siemreap.

Airline Companies currently serving in Vientiane are Lao Airlines, Thai Airways International, Vietnam Airline, Siemreap Airway, The Southern China Airline, Silk Air, Malaysian Airline.

Domestic flights are served by Lao Aviation only.
A departure tax of 10US$ in levied for international flights, while 5.000 kips is levied for domestic flights.

Overland
You can also get into Lao by land from China, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. Tourists can pass the border at the following Entry Points:
From Thailand

Arrival by Boat: From Kunming or Xishuangbanna, China, it is possible to travel by boat through the Mekong river straight to Xiangkok riverport on Mekong River in Luang Namtha Province (no visa on arrival).
From Vietnam

my girlfriend's cousin works at the vientiane checkpoint, so we breezed back through to thailand in minutes... and huge improvement on the hour or so going in at nong khai, and much better than then 30 minutes at huay xai. smile.gif

Is it really possible to get a visa to enter in Laos at Chong Mek border???
I saw on many guides and websites that is not possible.Please let me know that.Thanks so much.

As far as I know, it is possible to get a visa at Chong Mek border. However, I did not got myself there for quite long time, so I can't promise
