Hi. I'm currently in Israel and seriously considering going to a Greek Island to lounge around in/on before returning to States. I'd love to find a small, non-touristy spot somewhere to just relax and enjoy for a few weeks. Anybody out there got any ideas....not looking for cities at all....something more rural, small village atmosphere on an Island. Definitely not touristy! Thanks for your help! Linda

Hi Linda,

I haven't been to Greece for a long time (save for a day trip) but I love the Greek islands: I went on a three-week sailing trip with my uncle about ten years back and it was amazing. We saw dolphins several times and they swim along with the boat... I don't know if you're into sailing at all (I hadn't been when I first boarded ship in Marmaris but I immediately fell in love with it), but if you are, maybe you want to opt for that.

It will depend on the tour you book, but it will be more quiet than on the main land, that's for sure, and you also get to reach many smaller islands that people normally won't even get to. I remember spending the night on an island with a few goats and donkeys for company. Or sailing at night in perfect silence right under the milky way... best times. Boats are great for lounging, too!

I'm sure it's easy enough to find out about such boat tours once you're there. There's plenty rural and plenty quiet to be found in Greece. I'm sorry I can't give any more specific advice but I'm positive that you will find your island! smile.gif

I liked the island of Paros or Naxos. They are both pretty cute and not too touristy (mind you that was 3 years ago). Its very easy to go "island hopping" as ferries run so frequently and are quite cheap. So if you don't like one place, just move on to the next smile.gif

Enjoy!

I agree with whereshegoes :o)

I only went to 3; Paros, Ios & Santorini, and they were all beautiful in their own way (especially santorini), but if your looking for a non touristy island, with beautiful beaches and a great place to kick your feet up and relax and enjoy the life style... There's nothing like hiring a moped and cruising around Paros on. One of the best experiences i had! You can get from one end of the island to the other in a matter of an hour on a moped (and only costs 14 euro a day)

Paros and Naxos are similar from what i've heard (as i haven't been to Naxos), however Paros is alot smaller size wise.

Give it a go :o)

I went to the same 3 islands...

Santorini for the views.
Ios is trashy party central. Young blokes preying on Young Drunk Girls territory. So so place...
Paros - I agree with the grab a moped and cruise idea mentioned previously... top notch fun. But ride safe.

I loved Paros (and even smaller anti-Paros)! Good times. Very laid back...you can get out of town on a bicycle and just ride around the island. smile.gif Enjoy!
