All this forum chat has got me full gear googling up summer options. I always love to chase a good festival, but internet search engines only dig so deep. Please tell me about festivals in your area that are worth the trip. Plus a little bird told me sometimes people get accomodation...cough cough.

See the folk fest sounds great! But, that is like the Most popular weekend of Summer for Festivals. Why, Why must I choose.

Do ittttttt, it's awesome. I wonder what the lineup will be like this year. Last year, it was two of my favourites, Rose Cousins, Eliza Gilkyson and KOBO TOWWWWWWN... I heart Kobo Town...

The Cambridge Folk Festival in Cambridge is excellent - but you probably won't be in the UK end of July!

End of July is all Scheduled with some ongoing favourites. Thanks.
How bout other months too! It's always summer somewhere.

OH, I would leave Canada, need be, if I get enough work in before holiday time. It's just so beautiful here in the summer, I never felt I needed too. there are about 3 festivals I do every year, but I like to flesh it out with new experiences too.

I used to have to save something for school, but I'm done with that now, so I can go for broke and fill up again in the fall.

Download @ Castle Donnington - KISS, I love it! If you like rock music, Donnington is the home...

A couple that friends have been to in Europe that they said were really good.

Rock Am Ring in Germany. Metallica!!

Pinkpop in Holland

Check out Efestivals anyway, for all the listings - sure they'll be millions going on all over the place.

UK has too many festivals now and it's hard for them all to compete in terms of lineup. I retired from festivals after last years Glastonbury debacle but that's the big one!

Other big festivals in Europe are Roskilde in Denmark, Benicassim in Spain and Exit in Serbia.

Yeah I think I've retired too unfortunately. Mainly due to the exponential increase in prices though. Could get a nice little holiday instead for that sort of money!

Exactly! I can't justify spending £150 on a ticket for Glastonbury to sit in tent in the pissing rain for 5 days. It's just not fun! Add to that the extortionate prices charged for food and copious amounts of cider and watered down lager!

I'm going to have a few days away in Europe somewhere (and hopefully some sun for a change) and probably a holiday to Asia later in the year smile.gif

NO Biggie! Canada is too beautiful to leave in the Summer, Pissing rain or no, unless need be.
So far the best thing about the Glastonbury thing is the Scheduling, but I'm with you on the price, esp wtth round trip air fare. More favourable to ones I can drive too. Makes it easier to drag the camping gear along. There are are a lot of provinces here, stilll hoping to hear from residents re: local specialties. learned a little so far, keep it coming!

Plus this is all great stuff, people need to know!

Just Curious, Was this Glastonbury thing worth the trip. May not be this year, but perhaps another. Good time? Good People?

Tons of wicked music festivals in the states. I'm not the fondest of heading south that way and I know staying in your own country is priority, especially in the summer, but some fests aren't too far at all. I've found alot of them just blow Canadian music festivals out of the water and I really hate to say that but it is the truth. I agree tho, I've never had the desire to leave Canada in the summertime. That's just insane. Take off in winter eh. smile.gif

You could come to the Hillside Festival in Guelph guitar.gif You can volunteer too....

The Meredith festival is the one to go to in Melbourne http://www.mmf.com.au/ but its getting pretty hard to get in as they limit tickets to preserve it's mood and the environment. I went to the first Point Nepean festival last year which was quite nice = gorgeous views! http://www.pointnepeanmusic.com/

The Falls (http://www.fallsfestival.com/) and Summerdayze (http://www.futureentertainment.com.au/Events/summadayze2007/sd_2007_webpage.html?) are the old faithfuls, and there are Melbourne versions of the aforementioned Big Day Out and Good Vibrations festivals.

If you don't mind crowds but want to keep your commute low go to some of the excellent options right in the city:

http://www.lanewayfestival.com.au/
http://www.brunswickmusicfestival.com.au/
