haha, i love it. i would enjoy having two consciousnesses (one thai), so that i can understand how badly i muller their language when i speak. i regularly get laughed at, given quizzical expressions, told to speak english, or just ignored.

so when i teach my thai girlfriend english slang and listen to her repeat it, i feel no guilt whatsoever...

i have just taught her to say, 'naff off, i bottled it, alright!'. she says it beautifully, in a cockney accent which i didn't teach her.

when i get it recorded (and by jiminy i shall...) i'll post it - it's hilarious in a really cute way.

anyone else tried this with friends?

Ha ha I love this - this has to be my favourite of all time:-

Fag - Probably the most famous troublesome word for Brits in the USA. I even fell for it myself when I visited my first US supermarket aged 16 and asked how much the fags were. The lady gave me a horrible stare and pretended not to hear me.

I had such fun with this word and the Americans in Bahrain... especially when I asked them "d'ya wanna fag?" - too funny!

Lift - The American version is an elevator.
In England we don't talk in the lift, unless we are with close friends or colleagues. Even then, as soon as someone else steps in, all conversation stops! In America, these rules do not apply. Americans in England should attempt to abide by the English lift laws, or may accidentally upset the natives, who will be giving each other strange looks! A lift is also something you get by standing at the side of main roads with your thumb out. Americans hitch-hiking in the UK should avoid asking for a "ride"! This could result in some unplanned sexual activity with someone you have never met before!

OMG, my very American DH talks in the elevator to anyone and everyone. Bugs the crap outta me. I prefer a no talking zone!
