It's not the festivals that I enjoy when in France it's the unusual markets there is a town we visit regularly in summer they have a special market only in summer on a Tuesday evening where all the local farmers bakers etc. gather around the Ancient market hall the council set up the tables and organise constant rubbish collection and an OUTSIDE BAR the stalls all sell cooked foods from Entrecote steak and chips to Moules and Frites ;Couscous ; Chinese - almost every cuisine you can think off
Then everyone sits around eating and chatting to whoever is on the tables with them a REAL family night where the kids are polite and no one gets drunk WONDERFUL
I just wish we could have have this sort of time here in the UK without the morons who spoilt it
So far in our travels we have found such marché as this in at least 5 departments so they are not just restricted to odd places
Search around and ask you may be lucky to find one and just enjoy the ambience of a true family night out
