People often wonder why you can't hop around the Caribbean on ferries like you can in Europe. Keep in mind distances are much greater, and island populations much smaller and less wealthy, so it isn't a commercial proposition to run ferries between the islands.
In the case of Jamaica, I know of no regular services except cruise lines and air lines. As Starlagurl says, you may be able to hitch a ride on a yacht from Cuba, Cayman Islands or Hispaniola, but that's really a long shot.
Charter is another option, but it will be very costly and time consuming. Cuba is the nearest island, about a day's sail. Cayman and Hispaniola are next at probably a 24-hour trip each way.
So all in all, there aren't many options. Best to get online and try to find "el cheapo" air fare. Miami is the best gateway, with American at US$ 236.00 RT. Cheers Martin
