Hi

Will be visiting the Maldives in July. We are travelling independently and arriving from India.

We are considering Vilu Reef Resort. Any information on the resort would be welcome.

Hi Gauss,

Vilu Reef is quite a small beautiful island and is reached by seaplane. Seaplanes only operate in the hours of daylight, so do check what time your flight from India arrives into the Maldives.

There are 3 room types available on Vilu Reef, Garden Villa, Beach Villa and Jacuzzi Water Villa, all are good, if your budget stretches the beach villas are lovely and the Jacuzzi Water Villas are fantastic.

The island offers half board and all inclusive for the meal plan options. The island has a main restaurant and an a la carte option. There are the usual snorkelling, fishing excursions available. Entertainment as low key, as it is really on all islands.

Do you have any info on Helengeli resort?

Interesting choice......

Room types whilst adequate do not have the wow factor that most of the room types do at vilu reef, and double bungalows, not individual, though you do still have privacy.

Helengeli is very good for snorkeling and diving and is very popular with people of this interest, where perhaps the accommodation facilities are less important. Have a look at the islands website for further information - www.helengeli.net

Thanks once again.
Since posting I realised the accomodation was semi-detached, which we do not want. I am now considering Nika Island resort, while not dismissing Vilu Reef.

Nika Island is lovely, not as luxurious as Vilu Reef, but still really nice. The water villas are good, however the individual beach villas are also good...... Both islands are reached by seaplane.

Can you please offer an opinion on the snorkelling on the re-opened Centara Grand(Machachafushi) and Vilu reef. Also, which do you consider to be the best overall quality for Water Bungalows and food?

Do you have any info on Dhiggiri with regards to accomodation, snorkelling and diving.

We had an excellent time on Dhiggiri.
It is set up to accomodate Italian tourists but we were aware of this before we went and it did not affect our enjoyment in any way. indeed, it added to the experience.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent, although Italian influenced.
House reef provided excellent snorkelling and the diving was extremely good, if a little expensive. try to negotiate a dael. By signing up for a number of dives and one special dive, they provided my equipment for "free".
An altogether wonderful week.

Good to hear that you had such a wonderful time............ Most islands offer a 'deal' when booking more than one dive.
