The successor of Lichnidos, the town of Ohrid, has survived all this and has been preserved with this name until today.

The Classical Theatre, which is considered to be built in the 4 th century B.C. and after more than two millenniums has been uncovered, reconstructed and used; The Fortress which was named after Samuel – the very first Macedonian-Slav emperor from the 10 th century proves that the town of Ohrid even in the ancient time was a fortified one.

Hmmm
Difficult question..
Lets say that i'm more visiting Restaurants with food and stuff like that.
No 1 Restaurant in Skopje is ,,Kaj Zlate,,and of course is very cheep there.
In Ohrid the best place for food and good music is Belvedere.
There you have many old things from the 40-50-60ies and the atmosphere is fantastic.

Has anyone visited Macedonia?

Hello,
my friends are planning to go to Macedonia by train in April or May this year. Do you find it dangerous? I am asking because I think that the train is going through Kosovo.
Thank you for answering.

Macedonia abounds in natural beauties and rarities. Many have named it "the pearl of the Balkans." Its numerous mountains, forests, rivers, and lakes represent a great tourist attraction.
The country is rich in water resources. It is often called "the land of lakes" because of its numerous tectonic, glacial, and man-made lakes. There are about 50 large and small lakes, the most significant ones being the lakes of Ohrid, Prespa, and Dojran. The rivers form three basins, the largest one -- the Vardar River .

The high mountains present its impressive, spectacular landscapes. Because of the great variety of plant and animal species, some areas in the mountains have been proclaimed national parks: Mavrovo, Pelister, and Galicica.

There are various climatic zones in the country -- temperately Mediterranean in the south (with warm summers and mild winters) and moderately continental in the north with more marked seasonal extremes.

The main administrative center of the country is Skopje , with a population of 467,257 inhabitants. It's a place where many roads and civilizations have met and mingled. Other major towns are: Bitola , Prilep, Kumanovo, Tetovo, Ohrid.

The city of Ohrid, situated on the shore of Lake Ohrid, with its natural beauties, historical and cultural heritage enjoys the protection of UNESCO. Ohrid abounds with a large number of historical and cultural monuments, lovely beaches, and accommodation facilities.

There are only a few lakes in the world today whose antiquity can be compared with that of Lake Ohrid. It is possible that only Tanganyika in Africa and Titicaca in South America came into being in the same geological period.
