My wife and I will be going to Paris in March for one week. We would love to travel to Neuschwanstein, and the other castles in that area. What is the best way to get there? How far away is it?

Neuschwanstein Castle is roughly 8 hours from Paris, driving distance. Likely hopping a cheap flight over would be the best way.

Will you be renting a car during your trip?

We also would like to go to Belgium and Lux. Do you think it'd be best to rent a car and take a 2 day road trip this way, or am I trying to 'pack' too much in our little amount of time?

Hello Travellers,

I suggest you access the Via Michelin site. This is the European equivalent of Map Quest. I think you will find Belgium and Bavaria in opposite directions. Any partucular reason for Belgium and Luxemburg? They tend to be the least visited countries in Europe. http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamichelin/g.../MaHomePage.htm
Enter France as the country. Enter Paris as the city, then Ville de Paris as the exact location. You can then expand the map to include all Europe or the specific parts of Europe that interest you.

Good luck and cheers
Martin

I was waiting for your expertise here Martin. I knew you'd know smile.gif

In your opinion is driving this route a good option. Perhaps better to reroute a little bit so as not to drive too far away from each point of interest? What about the route from Paris to Neuschwanstein? At an almost 8 hour driving distance what's the best option for this trip in your opinion? Hop a plane? Rent a car?

Hi wakingdream,
It's a long and relatively uninteresting drive from Paris, so they should save those 8 hours for Munich. I agree that the easiest way to go is to find a cheap flight from Paris to Munich, or the 6-hour overnight train ride, then take a day trip either purchasing a tour, renting a car or taking the train. While there look into the Romantic Road too. Just look at all the wonderful day trips available from Munich.

Cheers
Martin

The train ride sounds nice. I love traveling by train. I thought there might be some neat thngs to see along the way if they drove but I guess not. An 8-hour drive seems longer if the scenery isn't that great.

The day trips from Munich look awesome! Someday I so want to go back and see more! Thanks for the answers Martin, I was curious..... flowers.png with so much family across Europe it's inevitable that we'll head back in the next few years. Now I know exactly whose brain tp pick!

That's what brains are for, Susie. It's nice to be able to share experiences on TravelPod.

Cheers

What about staying in the Paris area and doing smaller trips? One week isn't a lot of time and it would be a shame if most of it was spent in a car/airport/train.
