430,000 square foot ruins of an ancient fortress, believed to be an Inca or pre-Inca structure, were recently discovered in Peru!! The ruins are in the district called Kimbiri. Expeditions have been running since 1925 to find Paititi which is what these ruins are believed to be.

They're thought to be the lost citadel of Paititi. See the VIDEO on NG.

This is pretty monumental news!

The ruins are described as "as a stone settlement adorned with gold statues"

Legend claims "A commonly cited legend claims that Paititi was built by the Inca hero Inkarri, who founded the city of Cusco before retreating into the jungle after Spanish conquerors arrived."

I have wanted to visit Peru again since our last visit in '99 but seeing something new and of this caliber would be even more amazing! No 'official' news will be available until archaeologists start unraveling the mystery smile.gif

I love it when they find new stuff like this. It makes you wonder what other amazing cities/objects are lost, waiting to be discovered.

I want to go to Peru but the cost of flights from the UK is obscene sad.gif

I know, me too. Something more to explore and discover makes it so appealing.
