Here's mine.
I'm in grade 12 on an art club trip to New York, and we're aimlessly wandering around Pier 17 after all the stores have closed. Totally starving, we just go somewhere cheap to eat. What do you know?! It's the BEST PIZZA OF MY LIFE. Ultra-thin, crispy crust, baked to perfection, warm, spicy sauce, gooey cheese, totally unbelievable. We sat on the boardwalk and devoured our huge slices on little paper plates. It was just a chain restaurant and I can't remember the name, but it was so good, and I've never had anything like it again, not even in Italy.

QUOTE(exploreamerica @ Jan 25 2008, 06:27 PM) QUOTE(travelmonster @ Jan 18 2008, 01:06 PM) Mine is a pizzeria in Cusco which was baked in a clay oven - loads of cheese, garlic and mushrooms on it! I ended up having the same pizza two nights while we were there because it was just so good.
What is the name? I'll be there in 2 months. Is it bad for me to go for Italian food in Peru? To be honest, I can't remember the name of it but there are quite a few pizzeria type places and Cusco is quite famed for their clay-oven pizzas, so there are plenty to choose from. In short, no its not bad for you to go and eat whatever you feel like eating, wherever you are, its up to the individual to do what they want rather than what is expected of them. We originally went to a pizza place because my husband had been very ill the night before and really didn't want anything 'too fancy' to eat because of it, so we went for a pizza, its only that it was so delicious that we went back a couple of nights later and had it again. We had been in the jungle the previous week and spent 99% of the time eating nothing but Peruvian dishes - personally I think its a shame for someone to go to another country/culture and not try any local food, but if you fancy a pizza or something in amongst it, then go for it!! What are you planning for Peru? I'm very envious by the way, I really enjoyed being there, I hope you have an excellent time.

QUOTE(exploreamerica @ Jan 30 2008, 02:31 PM) QUOTE(ScottWoz @ Jan 28 2008, 06:19 PM) If you like.. Have an amazing time Stu. Shouldn't you be eating guinea pig instead of pizza though? I'll probably try the guinea pig just because...when in Rome (or Lima!) It's pretty good actually. just like the old cliche; tastes like chicken. It's a little more disconcerting when you meet someone who breeds them and they are running all over the place, then you eat one a half hour later! Seriously tho, we had a few in Pisac and they were yummy. QUOTE Mine is a pizzeria in Cusco which was baked in a clay oven - loads of cheese, garlic and mushrooms on it! I ended up having the same pizza two nights while we were there because it was just so good. Come to think of it, we had great pizza when we were there too! Somewhere a few blocks from the Plaza. Mmmm!! Jeremy is a pizza fanatic. Also, do NOT miss trying the street bbq. There's some seriously delicious marinade they use.

Is anyone old enough to remember Green Door Pizza in the old town (Arab quarter) in Jerusalem? Cooked over real flame with a couple of orangey eggs floating on the top. If you could bat away the flea ridden kittens who attended you as you sat cross legged on a piss stained mattress, it was undoubtedly THE BEST Pizza experience of my life. Alas that was nearly 20 years ago - I am guessing it's not there anymore.

QUOTE(nomadic @ Apr 10 2008, 01:42 PM) QUOTE(starlagurl @ Apr 10 2008, 10:45 AM) Oh my goodness, that sounds HORRENDOUS! But the pizza must've been worth it. I am definitely not old enough to remember that place, nor have I ever been to Jerusalem...
Ah...Jerusalem....20 years ago it was my favourite city. I haven't been back in a while, but I fear the almighty wall (not the Western/Wailing one) may have spoilt it somewhat. wow, that really got my. I never would have imagined it to be possible to hear "The Wall" in Jerusalem and not think of the holy Western Wall, but you are right...it is sad to think that the new one has to be built. How far off the pizza topic have I taken us?????

And hey - this is a travel site not a fast food forum...I think it far more appropriate to talk about cities of the world (maybe seasoned with a little junk food and politics for good measure)...I should make it my crusade to rip through the forums and bring each one back on track....what do you think?
