Railay itself is getting a bit expensive now (for backpackers), but there is always Hat Tonsai across the bay from West Railay beach. Check that out if you need 150 baht/night bungalows.

Wherever you go in Railay though, its beautiful. Enjoy!

If you go to Krabi or HT, and I fully recommend you do, then make sure to climb to the top of the outermost limestone karst, and then climb down INTO it, where at the bottom you will find a pond. The climb is super-muddy, somewhat dangerous, and totally worth the sweat when you look up 100+ metres to see blue sky ringed by tropical green and framed by limestone walls.

Hi James,

I came across your post on Railay and is seriously considering to take up your recommendation to stay at Highland Bungalows. What would be the other attraction in Railay in addition to the beach?

First, the beach is amazing, and the scenery around it and on the Raileh peninsula is probably worth it alone. There's lots of rock climbing opportunities on the peninsula, and sea-kayaking in the vicinity. We did a sea-kayaking day trip to Ao Tha Lane from Raileh - most of the tours and activities that run from Krabi also pick up from Raileh, so by staying there you get the added advantages of the scenery and seclusion.

Other activities I remember being offered included snorkelling and diving trips, and boat trips around various islands - I think its quite dependent on weather and demand - ie, whether its low or high season so that might be an issue if you're thinking of going.

I had an awesome time there, I completely recommend it smile.gif
