Can anyone help me with an itinerary for 2 week in Argentina in November. We are over 50, about 6 people, interested in cities, penguins and whale watching. Do we have to travel back to BA in order to reach each destination or can we go directly from city to city?

Have you tried to click on the link for "Tours" at the top of most Travelpod pages....look at the top of this one.....this will take you to another page which will ask you to input a city name of where you want to go but you can input country too and you will get results for tours in the country you have input...so go give it a try!

You lucky things..I think you can do a two-week itinerary and see the best of Argentina:

Buenos Aires BUE (of course), Iguassu Falls IGU, Mendoza MDZ, Bariloche BRC, El Calafate FTE (Perito Moreno Glaciar), Ushuaia USH (Tierra del Fuego) and Trelaw REL (Valdes Peninsula).

2 BUE
3 BUE-IGU-BUE
4 BUE
5 BUE-MDZ
6 MDZ
7 MDZ-BUE-BRC
8 BRC
9 BRC-EFE
10 EFE (visit glacier)
11 EFE-Ush

14 REL (visit Valdes Peninsula)
15 REL-BUE-USA

Depending on final air schedules, I think you will need a bit more time at the Valdes Peninsula for the whales, elephant seals and penguins.

By the way, we took a supremely comfortable overnight bus from BUE to MDZ with full length beds, dinner and breakfast for just US$ 23.00 (in 2005).

Good flying route.

I would recommend "supremely comfortable overnight bus" all the way, except for southern patagonia: you caould fly to Ushuaia, bus to the glaciers, fly back up, or the other way round. The northern loop Buenos AIres - Iguazu -Mendoza - Bariloche is good, although a bit long.
You can see bus schedules and book online. Companies such as flecha, andesmar, cata.

The plane itinerary is good of course, but you'll have transfer and boarding time...
By bus you will save time sleeping while moving, but in the mornings you'll have to wait till you check in your hotel before you can take a shower, and then rush to fill up your day with tours and visits. If you have energy to spend and no time to loose, that is the way to go!

Seeing the time you might be loosing if you don't have a proper organization, you might want to find a guide to arrange a tour for the 6 of you.

I recomend you to spend 1 or 2 night in Iguazu (the falls), and instead of Mendoza I recomend you going to the NW.
Tucuman, Salta and Jujuy are very different from the rest, and you have vineyards too.

I will not recomend you to take the bus between USH and FTE.

You are right, my mistake: if you go direct from ushuaia to the glaciers it's better to fly

That is discutable. To me, anywhere in the universe the views would be attractive!

He's right. Southern Patagonia is as flat as a pancake, and very desolate. When you only have two weeks to see Argentina, 20 hours in a bus is not practicable.

By the way, here we are backing and forthing, yet we haven't heard from Bonnie, the original correspondent. Are you out there Bonnie? What do you think?

Hi Bonnie, I´m from Argentina. You don´t have to travel back to Buenos Aires in order to reach other destination. First go to the Tourist Information. Not all the cities have airport but Bs As is not the only one.

Glad to see you have decided on your itinerary. For us that want to see everything, we are disappointed you are not including Iguassu, Bariloche and Ushuaia, but I think your choice is good if you want to experience more of each place rather than spending too much time travelling.

Here’s my suggestion:
Day
1 USA-BUE overnight flight
2 BUE
3 BUE – Optional full day by air to Iguassu.
4 BUE
5 BUE-MDZ by overnight bus
6 MDZ. Rent a car and visit the local wineries and Andes
7 MDZ-BUE - EFE I am unable to find a direct flight MDZ to EFE or REL, so I would return to BUE either on the bus or by air, and connect in BUE without overnight. Here is a local Argentine web site that offers domestic fares and prices.

8 EFE – visit glacier
9 EFE – REL – bus or taxi to Puerto Madryn
10 Visit penguins at Punta Tombo
