QUOTE(travelmonster @ Jan 5 2010, 09:55 AM) For me 'wealthy' has nothing to do with money at all. Inner 'happiness' is all thats needed, money cannot and never will able to buy that.
i definately believe what paula has said one could have a great wealth of knowledge therefore they are wealthy and that has nothing to do with money with the whole money cant buy happiness argument i question the validity of that statement. there's a movie called "Orange County" quirky film with tom hanks' son Colin in it and in a scene Colin Hanks says to his mother played by catherine o'hara that "money cant buy you happiness" to which she replies "oh grow up yes it can" - ive always found that scene hilarious and thought provoking because whilst alot will say it cant in actual fact money can buy happiness most people refer to money not being able to buy one's internal happiness but what about external (minus family, friends, good health and love) would you say money cant buy happiness to those who dont know where their next meal is coming from, those who barely make rent payments or are homeless or those who need $$$ in order for a life saving operation etc etc im not saying you need millions to be happy but you do need it and if your able to buy a house (outright) car, take yourself off travelling the world, keep yourself and family fed and clothed etc etc in the end these things would make/keep you happy

would you say money cant buy happiness to those who dont know where their next meal is coming from, those who barely make rent payments or are homeless or those who need $$$ in order for a life saving operation etc etc Yes, I would. I think back to an experience I had in the Peruvian jungle when I think about happiness. I had the great fortune to spend some time in the jungle living alongside a number of native piro-indians. These people and their families had nothing, in terms of any material things. They ate whatever they found in the jungle to eat, they had no house, just a small shelter made from sticks - no running water, no electricity, no gas, nothing - yet they were the happiest people I have had the opportunity to meet. They seemed to want for nothing, everything they needed was right there - and they laughed - a lot, all the time. Fantastic. They showed me a completely different side of how to live, they just relied on each other. They had a much, much bigger sense of community and sharing than I've ever seen.
