If we compare our flights to those of the past with the flights we now have we can see a great difference.
One would indeed think that the glamour of the past has gone. It is true that, this glamour could be enjoyed by a smaller number of passengers those days. Now, more and more people are flying, and I wonder if some people out here share the same feelings as I have when travelling. (Most of the times I feel as if I am in a bus visiting the nearby city).
Travelling with long queues waiting in line to enter the aircraft, the long queues at the check in, and the way we are treated on board makes all the magic of the past gone.
We have to pay so much to have a glass of water (because the bottles we buy on board the planes are really small).
Remember the airhostesses of the past? They seemed to be real models, while the girls working as airhostesses nowadays are sometimes over 45, fat and ugly.
I remember wearing some of my best clothes while flying, while nowadays I put the worst.

Probably just those very rich people who can buy business class tickets can enjoy some of the luxury services of the past still today!
The moment I get on board a flight, the first word that comes to my mind is " Abra Katabra"! A magic word.....wishing the trip is over and step on earth again in minutes after taking off!

Read the article, and tell us how you feel.
Are you still excited, or you get bored on board the plane and look forward to landing?
Are you one of those lucky guys who fly business class?

I think it is only the long haul companies that take care of passengers needs, in Europe anyway.

The easiest way to help avoid the intelectually challenged staff (just my perception) is to travel with hand luggage only and take your own food and drink on board with you. It works for us!

We have had the odd stare from cabin staff but they have never said anything about us being self sufficient whilst on board, but then the food has a lot to be desired and I couldn't really see them kicking up a fuss and demanding that we eat the mal-nutrional slop they dish out in corrugated cardboard.

You may be able to tell I'm not a fan of airlines! :-)

oh.....and why is it we always end up sitting next to the alcoholics annonymous yearly trip out!?

We do exactly the same. Carrying only 8 kilos each! I sometimes carry my own( food ) on board depending on the trip. If I leave from Athens yes, but if I am in a foreign country this cannot be done.....however we always buy cheaper from outside the airport and carry with us on board.

Hey!
I'm also not the biggest fan of flying (every time there's turbulence, I become a mess)!

I definitely agree that it's not the same as it used to be, especially lately with all the hidden costs and fees (Ryanair, I'm talking to you!)!

I suppose ultimately though, it's the only convenient way to travel (and often the cheapest)...from my experiences at home (Canada) and in Europe, it is often far cheaper to fly than to take trains or buses. So until those prices come down, people will continue to use air travel and airlines will continue to degrade the experience! (Unless one can afford business or first class...not a likely option for me anytime soon!)

Cheers

Hey!
Ryanair also has flights to areas around Europe...not many though! I took a flight from Fes, Morocco to London! They may have more now, I'm not sure!

Cheers
