1) Winter Ski Chalet - what could be more romantic than snuggling up in front of a roaring fire in a luxurious chalet deep in the beautiful scenery of the French Alps, or maybe the foothills of the Swiss mountains.

2)The Bahamas - this group of 700 islands are situated just off the Florida coast, and have all you need for that perfect, exotic get away. White sandy beaches, year round sun and plenty of crystal clear tropical waters make the islands a breathtaking paradise to visit, and there is nothing more romantic than dining in one of the many beach bars, watching the sun sink slowly over the beautiful water.

3)Venice - Venice has long been known as one of the most romantic cities in the world, and the stunning architecture and unusual water logged streets have kept lovers returning year after year. There are plenty of romantic things to do in the city, such as dining in one of the many street side cafes, listening and even dancing to the sounds of the various street performers in the main squares, and of course taking a scenic gondola ride around the cities beautiful waterways.

4)Australia’s Goldcoast - the Goldcoast is one of Australia’s premier destinations, with absolutely pristine, golden beaches, blue pacific waters and beautiful sunshine.

5)Ireland - Ireland is a country full of breathtakingly dramatic scenery and passionate people, and makes the perfect romantic destination for couples. From the stunning coastlines through to the quiet rolling rural farmland the Irish landscape is timeless, and also dotted with amazing city landscapes such as wonderful bustling Dublin.

Well yeah... Paris and ski chalet and Venice and the bahamas all seem to have their "cliches"

But for Australia and Ireland, I can't think of what it is.

laugh.gif Yeah, romance is about who you are with, not so much the where.

OMG Australia definately has its cliche romantic places nation wide i might add but like Paula said its who you're with not where but i guess people do tend to think of "cliche" spots as romantic
but what is really so romantic about paris, bahamas etc

OK:

Paris = "City of Love" and the cliche proposal on the Eiffel tower

Ski Chalet = bearskin rug and champagne etc. etc.

Venice = Romantic gondola ride through the canals at dusk, with wine and Italian restaurants, etc. etc.

Bahamas = Crystal clear beaches and white sand, holding hands walking down the beach...

What are the cliches for Australia? Dehydration after sweltering at 10000 degrees in the Outback?

What is the cliche for Ireland? Getting drenched in the latest rainfall downpour, then getting smashed in the nearest pub?

I don't know what I'd pick for the other two, but it certainly wouldn't be these two places...

never understood its "city of love" label but each to their own i guess....

Ski Chalet = bearskin rug and champagne etc. etc.
bearskin rugs and champagne would be common anywhere its cold/snowing

Venice = Romantic gondola ride through the canals at dusk, with wine and Italian restaurants, etc. etc.
venice probably is one of the few cliched places id deem as romantic

Bahamas = Crystal clear beaches and white sand, holding hands walking down the beach...
there are crystal clear beaches the world over!

What are the cliches for Australia? Dehydration after sweltering at 10000 degrees in the Outback?
majority of Australia's population is on the coastal edge of Australia not inland/outback Australia so you wouldnt get 10000 degrees in temps , you would be near many beaches with crystal clear blue waters if thats the type of romantic setting one is after etc etc

What is the cliche for Ireland? Getting drenched in the latest rainfall downpour, then getting smashed in the nearest pub?
rain is sooooooooo romantic!!!!!

Hey, hey, hey....leave Ireland alone tongue.gif

I bet you didn't know that Saint Valentine is buried here? Yep, in the Carmelite Church on Whitefriar Street in Dublin yes.gif So, it MUST be romantic here wink.gif

In Galway, there is the tradition of the Irish Claddagh Ring - the hands symbolise friendship, the heart symbolises love. If the person wearing it has the heart facing inwards, it means they've found love already, if it's outwards, their heart is still open....

There are also a gazillion castles you can go exploring in with your King or Queen wink.gif

If it's niceish weather, there are some of the prettiest beaches in Ireland to go for a romantic stroll along (albeit in your hat and gloves) If the weather's not so good there are lots of shops that sell brolly's! wink.gif

In terms of accommodation, there are hundreds of cottages to rent in the countryside, most of which will have that romantic open fire to snuggle up in front of - and if it's stormy weather outside, it makes you appreciate the cosiness all the more...

For the ultimate in romance, head into one of the Gaeltacht pockets of the country, where Irish is the first language. You won't be able to understand it, however it is a very romantic language, in that it's very hard to be nasty to anyone - nasty words don't translate into and don't exist in Irish biggrin.gif

Being a Celtic country, there is a lot of Celtic folklore to explore with your loved one. For example the legend of the Witch at Lough Crew and the 'jealous man and woman' at Newtown, Co. Meath

On the west of Ireland, you can explore the amazing coast, with fabulous walks along cliffs and fantastic scenery

Have I convinced you?

Hey Kathryn, I am convinced.
I just love Ireland and its people! I remember the trip we had in Dublin and Kerry.
Awsome!

In my turn I want to add another place and that is Santorini. Have you ever visited this beautiful picturesque island?

Oh yes, and those of you travelling with Easyjet this Valentine's Day, be sure to get seats in the first 5 - 7 rows ......easyjet has a 50% discount on perfumes on this special day, but if your seat is at the very end you won't have the chance to buy anything by the time they reach you!

Good, good Popi wink.gif

No, I've never been to Santorini.

I just found out though, that my fab boyfriend is taking me on a 'mystery trip' for next Valentines. We're going 'somewhere' the weekend after the day itself though, as weekends on actual Valentines Day always have a premium price, which I think is stupid!

I'm so excited!!! Wonder where we're going...?

When you find out about that mystery trip, you can reveal the spot to us as well Kathryn.
Oh yes, I know that prices are up those days! That was the reason I was returning on that day! Even hotels are up.
