My husband & I are wondering where to head for 2 days after our 3 day stint in Cuzco. Can anyone suggest an off the beaten town/village where the highlight is NOT an archeological sight?! I'd like to just explore the people & streets of a town & soak up the culture, rather than seeing another site. Should we venture North of Cuzco to Ollantaytambo or any other town of the Sacred valley? We will be in Cuzco Jan. 2008; is it cold(meaning you can't wear shorts & a t-shirt) in all the towns north of Cuzco?

It seems that most cities near Cuzco have an archeological site in / near them. I love that though. You could easily spend a week in the sacred valley.

I am planning a trip for March and so I would also love to see some more people respond with some ideas.

Additionally, if I want to extend my trip about 5 days beyond, what is good to see nearby?
Recomendations for Ecuador or Bolivia?
