A taxi service with all female drivers and exclusively for the use of women has begun in the Mexican city of Puebla.

The service is meant to provide an alternative for women fed up of disrespectful male drivers - and the only males allowed in the pink cabs are boys under the age of 12.

What a disgrace. Imagine daring to do the reverse. What year is it again?

Really? I've heard of women being assaulted by male drivers. I think it's important if women are going to feel safe. I don't know how prevalent it is, but in Ottawa there have been a few cases, so I'm assuming it's worse in Puebla.

Honestly, if I was on the street and had the choice between a pink cab and a regular cab in Mexico, you bet I'd take the pink one.

Then again, I'd probably be on the bus anyway...

Really, if it's late, maybe busses aren't running, is is right that any person should not be picked up because of their sex? What about their color? Generalizing and discriminating aren't any more attractive no matter how you package them, even in pink.

Yeah, I don't get the part about not allowing men in the cars. I wonder if women taxi drivers have been assaulted as well. The articles I found about it didn't say.

We have the Atenea (Athena) bus service here in Mexico City and we also have women-only subway cars during the high traffic hours. The problems always arise when a woman happens to be accompanied buy a male older than 12.

I agree with findingnine but at least in Mexico City we have a very feminazi (not feminist) influence in our public policy.
