I am trying to decide where to take trip.

My wife and I are in our fifties and want to take something of an anniversary trip...it's been 36 years next year and we woudl like to hear what are the nice things to see and do in australia.

Sounds like a nice place but hearing it from people who have already travelled there would be a bonus while we decide. We have lots of time and are planning on doing this next summer!

Ideas Please

Hmmm.... my favourites are:

1. The Great Barrier Reef
2. Sailing in the Whitsundays
3. Melbourne
4. Coral Bay
5. Broome

Western Oz is spectacular and a lot less travelled than the East Coast.

Don't miss Kings Canyon, its legendary and completely underrated compared to Ayres Rock and The Olgas in my opinion. Also 4 wheel driving Fraser Island, and up to Cape York is meant to be amazing aswell. There's so much... take your time!

Hi there,
As an Ozzie, my first offerings would be questions! We range from tropics to desert, hot to cold and ancient to modern. What are your interests (cities or country?), travel style (camping or 5 star?) are you driving or flying around and where are you? Is your summer our winter?
Having said that, Sydney and Melbourne are the top cities to see, Cairns/one of the islands for the Barrier Reef and the Red Centre and up to Darwin/Kakadu for the other extreme.
Cheers!

Totally agree with the last post. If you can give us some indication of your own preferences it would certainly help narrow down a few options. Australia is so vast in a range of extremes it would be too difficult to say as a vague response. Let us know a little more of the kind of things you guys like and we'll see what we can do to get the ideas blooming. There's plenty of great advice around here so it won't take long.. yes.gif

Hi, I live in Cairns and have done the route Brisbane-Cairns a few times. My highlights along that route are:

- Noosa, in the Sunshine Coast,

- Bundaberg, where dependind on the time of the year you may see turtles nesting

- Hervey Bay, where, from july to november, you may see whales.

- Whitsunday Islands, all of them are special in their own unique way, but if you decide to go for it, donīt miss a visit to Whitehaven Beach, itīs absolutely wonderful

- Mission Beach, surrounded by fabulous nature and long deserted beaches

- Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. Scuba diving, snorkelling or sailing is absolutely a must, whether itīs a day trip or a on a liveaboard.

- Daintree Rainforest up to Cape Tribulation. Another must visit area in Tropical North Queensland. Although you can rent a car and drive there yourself, I strongly recommend one of the many tours available, they can explain the history, the area and show you hidden places you would never see for yourself.

Sorry I cannot help with other areas but hope you find this info useful. Let me know if I can be of further help,
Maria

Thanks for the info Maria. I should be heading up that way in a few months time once I've made it over from WA. Will probably give you a shout then for a bit more info. Cheers..

Hi, you have probably been on your trip but as a local WA ite I would suggest a WA coast road trip. Pinnacles Cervantes, Drovers/Stockyard Caves Jurien, Historic Buildings & crayfish Dongara, Wind Bent Trees Greenough, Sydney Memorial / Maritime Museum Geraldton, Gorges Kalbarri, Stromalities Hamlin, Dolphins Monkey Mia, Blow Holes Carnarvon, Swim with the Manta's/Whale Sharks in Coral Bay. You could add in the inland spots of Karijini National Park or Mt Augustus (bigger rock than Urluru) Congrats

I've been traveling constantly here for five months, and have barely scratched the surface of things to see and do!

My favorites however would be:

Cape Range National Park in WA
Kings Canyon/Uluru, NT (as mentioned above, Kings Canyon is underrated)
Kakadu, NT
Melbourne, VIC
North Queensland - The Whitsundays, Cairns region and Fraser Island

Hi jacwez, there are many places in Australia that you can consider for the visit. There are many places around Sydney that are just right to get the eyes rolling. There is the blue mountains trips, hunter valley trips and of course, the wines that make up the whole thing feel good. air_kiss.gif
