"Casa de Pedra" or House of Stone was built by Estevao Silva da Conceicao in Paraisopolis, Brazil. If you go to the link at the bottom you can see a gallery of photos featuring the Gaudi-esque house that was built over two decades. Having just discovered Gaudi designs last year in Barcelona, I'm a bit stunned at what this guy's built! The weirdest part is this: What seems most striking is that a man who had never heard of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi has built something so similar to his style. Go figure! Could it be true? The facade at the front has often been compared to features in the world-famous Parc Guell in Barcelona. How interesting is that? Estevao Silva da Conceicao has become a local celebrity. His house was featured in a major Brazilian (architecture?) magazine awhile back after being discovered by an architectural student. I saw the tour through his house in the news story. What an imagination! We are hoping to go to Barcelona next May (it's a business thing, so fingers crossed), and Gaudi's works are definitely on my list of things to see. I totally fell in love with all the Gaudi architecture. It's so unique and magical. Like you're in a dream.
