That would probably depend on which kind of visa you can get.

Have you applied for the 1 year work/travel visa yet?

As Louise said, you'll need to get a work visa if you plan on working whilst you're in Australia. I'd suggest you visit a job search site like www.seek.com.au or www.mycareer.com.au as a start. As Surfers' main income is through tourism, I'd say there would be bar work available so if you have experience in that area you'll probably find something fairly easy.
Do you have any trades/ skill sets that might help? If you've got a qualification such as hairdressing, construction, real estate, anything really, you'll find the job search much easier.
