On less serious note the biggest baby in the world was born in Russia, weighing in at a colossal 7.75kg (17.5lbs)!!! ohmy.gif

That is one giant baby alright!

The Russian mother said they didn't have the money for any "special food" while she was pregnant so instead she ate noodles, potatoes and tomatoes. All of her other children were no less than 11kgs.

""What did the father say? He couldn't say a thing - he just stood there blinking," she said."

No kidding! The baby joins 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

Giant Baby

I've always had the utmost respect for women who have given birth but this takes the cake! I always knew the Russians were a hearty breed....

Hi Susie,

What is more interestng to me is this couple has produced eight children. But too many of their country women [and men] are not doing their share. Less than the 2.3 children per couple needed for ZPG [Zero Population Growth] and the Russian population is declining.

Very recently I read that a concerned Russian President Putin gave working couples a special paid day off to go home and try to conceive for Mother Russia.

Incidentally the BBC article sited wrote of a 1955 Italian boy weighing in at 10.2 Kg.

Hey there,

I read that too. A day off to get down. Sounds interesting. I can't remember what the prize was...? I think the last largest baby born was in Brasil at 17kgs, but can't remember when.

That's quite a weight for your ninth child, but it does sound like she's experienced in the art if childbirth! smile.gif

Hi Susie,

Was wondering whether a Russian woman who was protected from pregnancy by 'the pill' was honor bound to decline the paid day off from work. But could get a rain check for a free hay roll the next month if she skipped the pill.

And the poor Chinese get fined should they produce a second baby. Too few. Too many. Is there a moral here some where? A solution? Open the adjacent borders between Russia and China and let them mix it up. It'll average out just right. And my impression is that interracial children are more often very attractive. And think of the bonus in the relaxation of international tensions. Oh brave new world! Utopia. Dream another dream.

That "Baby making day" was a good ploy to get people having babies to win prizes.... Not sure I agree with it really.

If their baby was born on Russian national day they would be given some prizes such as washing machines and cars.

Me either, tho I can see why a day off to have sex, and possibly win prizes for it, might be appealing to those who have less.

I'm not sure of the reason why this day off is offered....?
