Hello all,

was wondering if anybody did travel in bus (OCC) from Palenque to Cancun and if you knew the required time to do the ride. Ticket bus says 12-13h, but after it told me 7h to go from Mexico City to Puerto Escondido and it took 20h, I do not believe them anymore

Sounds like you had a weird ride to Puerto....I did it and it only took 7 hours. Most buses in Mexico are pretty reliable - there must have been some road problems or something!!

I think It's only about 12 hours to Cancun....

Hello Jessica,

thanks for the info!! There is apparently 2 buses from Mexico to PE. One is OCC (lots of comfort but very long as it goes all the way to Veracruz then goes north to PE) or SUR (which is direct and take about 7h). I had no idea at the time and book it online on Ticketbus.com.mx and that site did say 7h for OCC. Anyways, got 5 movies on the OCC bus... cheap old american war movies though

The roads I travelled on in Mexico seemed pretty good, the buses were alway top notch.

I went from Puerto Escondido to San Cristobal and that took 10 hours+ including time spent at the bus stop after torrential rain washed away the road! I reckon at least 12 hours, probably more. Try to break up the journey somewhere on the way like San Cristobal or Palenque.

Plus, San Cristobal is an amazing town! I loved it there. I'd highly recommend stopping there for a day or two, or longer if you can!

Palenque to Cancun seems to me like it would take longer than 5.5 hours via air. But if you still insist to take bus it must be more than 12 hours.

There is an efficient straight route from Cancun to Palenque to Mexico City but once you throw in Puerto Escondido, which is awkwardly located on the coast through mountains from Oaxaca, you consume a lot of time just travelling. Perhaps you could do it if you flew to PE from Oaxaca and then flew from PE to Mexico City.

Hello!!

From Cancun to Palenque is about 12-14 hours, depending on the Bus class type ( I hughly suggest the first class...believe me). I live in Playa del Carmen and did it many times, last of which was last may..
