QUOTE(2olives @ Feb 4 2008, 05:52 PM) QUOTE(starlagurl @ Feb 4 2008, 03:29 PM) Ohhhhhhhhh you will love the Florida Keys. Will you have to hang out with the great-nephew the whole time? You can send kids on these "guided tours" aka babysitting for pretty much the whole day and then maybe you could save a day of Disney-ness, and go somewhere else...
You're so positive! Thank you for the encouragement and ideas. I'm not anti-Florida (unless it is summer, hee hee). I spent a short day in Key West last May (via a cruise) and loved it. The problem with cruises is that I never feel like I had enough time in a place to get in the groove, so the fact that I get to go back is thrilling. Have you been to the Keno sandal factory in Key West? I bought the cutest slides there for under $10. Luckily, while at Disney World, the great nephew will be in a different hotel with my sister-not-in-law, so over-exposure won't be a problem. The real problem is that I'm not much for standing in lines. ;-) Don't you worry, though. The family will never know I'm unhappy not to have spent this money exploring the real world. The Food and Wine Festival at Epcot and the hotel pool will keep me occupied most of the time, I suspect. I'm already practicing, "Aunt Heather is getting old and needs a nap. I'll see you at dinner, okay?" One trick for lines at Disney: Decide beforehand what are the most important places you want to see in the park. Then go when the park opens and go to the one on your list that is furthest away from the entrance. Most people start wandering around near the entrance and the lines there get long first. Once you've done your top choices, then you can take your time and fill in the rest of the time with whatever. It worked for us. Something else that worked well with our young daughters was to go out when the park opens and then return to the hotel after lunch for a swim in the pool. Go out again for dinner and the evening. The girls didn't get burned out with that schedule (and we didn't either).

That is great advice! Thank you.I hope I can add to the advice. Not only do I go all the time, but I take my students every year so I really need to know how to maximize our time with that many kids in such a short amount of time. I agree completely with going in early. That alone makes a huge difference with the crowds. Next go straight to the one ride that you really want, but would also be the most popular. For example, those would include Thunder Mts, Space Mtn or Splash Mtn. They will have the longest lines. So I go straight there and put my tickets in the Fast Pass. Are you familiar with this. Fast Pass lets you cut the line, but you need to go during a designated time. So rather than wait 60-90 minutes for those top rides you only wait 5. It is important to note that you can not do another Fast Pass until the time expires on the first one. The earlier you do a Fast Pass the sooner it expires and then the quicker you can get another Fast Pass. So I get the Fast Pass for one of those 3 rides. Then while I wait for my designated time to be for that ride I go and wait on line for another ride. Then at your set time you do the Fast Pass. When you get off you go for another Fast Pass ticket, then ride another ride while you wait and then once again after only wait 5 minutes for the new ride you have a Fast Pass for. Finally, if you are not in to the parades then I try to go on rides that are near a parade so while everonye is watching the parade the ride line is shorter. This works great for the Haunted Mansion. Fianlly stay away from eating a turkey leg!!!
