I was at work trying not to work and thinking about all the places I would rather be and I realized that every single one of the countries I picked had extensive coastline. I then started to wonder how many countries there were that were landlocked. To be honest the only ones I could come up with on the spot were Bolivia, Paraguay, Switzerland, The Czech Republic, and the Vatican. I googled it and it turns out there are a bunch more:

Afghanistan
Andorra
Armenia
Austria
Azerbaijan
Belarus
Bhutan
Bolivia
Botswana
Burkina Faso
Burundi
Central African Republic
Chad
Czech Republic
Ethiopia
Hungary
Kazakhstan
Kosovo
Kyrgyzstan
Laos
Lesotho
Liechtenstein
Luxembourg
Macedonia
Malawi
Mali
Moldova
Mongolia
Nepal
Niger
Paraguay
Rwanda
San Marino
Serbia
Slovakia
Swaziland
Switzerland
Tajikistan
Turkmenistan
Uganda
Uzbekistan
State of the Vatican City
Zambia
Zimbabwe

So my question to you is, if you had a month long vacation, in which of these landlocked countries would you go?

My picks are Paraguay and Switzerland.

Do you want our favorite one that we've been to? Or ones we want to go to?

The favorite one I have been too was Hungary. Something about it just really intrigued me. Spent a week or so split between Pecs and Budapest and really enjoyed myself.

If I had to choose ones to visit it would have to be Mongolia, Bhutan, or Nepal. Actually, I would really want to visit the five -stans of Central Asia.

Out of that list I've been to Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Switzerland was probably my favourite - because of the memories associated with it, had a brilliant skiing holiday there. Skiing, sledging and ice skating. Good times.

If I had to pick just one of the countries on the list that I haven't been to yet, I'd probably choose Rwanda at the moment, because I want to go trekking through the mountain forests to see gorillas.

I would love to do the trip I just did agian and go overland across Africa - out of your list I got Botswana, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
I think I'd love to explore more of Swaziland though as I only spent about 2 or 3 days there when I went last.
OR if I was to chose one I hadn't been to before, I think Rwanda would be extremely interesting because aside from Gorillas, I don't think tourism has opened up too much there yet.
The odd thing is though, a lot of the land locked countries have a massive watersource anyway. (like Malawi has Lake Malawi which when we were there we called it "Ocean Malawi" because it has it's own beaches and waves and everything. beach.gif )

Switzerland was probably my favourite

Agreed. I went canyoning there this past summer and then too the train to the Jungfrau from Interlaken...it was amazing! (see profile pic)

I just arrived back in Miami from five of them. Our flight connected in Switzerland and we then visited Czeck Rep., Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. In spite of the fact that it rained every single day, I am still in awe and really can't yet say which was best.

I have been to 8 but if I were to choose two others they would be Afghanistan and Tajikistan (the only country I have been denied a visa for).
