Finally read "the perfect storm," by sebastian junger. Riveting. The movie is really nothing like the book. It's not all that well written, but the accounts are intense.
Now reading the unabridged bio of Dickens: "Charles Dickens: His tragedy and triumph."

Ultimate travel book: Don Quixote.

Damien Leith actually won Australian Idol in '06 and is our most succesful idol so far and has just released the abovementioned novel. my curiousity got the better of me (especially as it revolves around trekking through nepal) and so far so good im only a couple of chapters in but he's pretty good...surprisingly

"Into the Wild" was good.

I am almost finished "Emergency Sex" - although I haven't really liked the characters in it, it has been interesting and an enjoyable read.

Sorry - I said ages ago that I'd put in here more facts from the "50 facts that should change the world" book. Here are some:

Landmines kill or maim at least one person per hour

1 in 5 of the world's population live on less than $1 a day

Tiger Woods, a sportsman, earns $148 a second

People in Industrialized countries eat between 6 and 7 kg of food additives a year

A quarter of the worlds armed conflicts in recent years has involved a struggle over natural resources

About 120 000 woman are trafficked into Western Europe every year

Every cow in the EU is subsidised by an average of $2.50 per day - more than what most Africans have to live on.

The USA owes the UN over $1 000 000 000 in unpaid dues

The USA spends about $10 000 000 000 on pornography each year - which is about the same amount it spends on foreign aid

Nearly 26 million people voted in the 2001 British general election. More than 32 million voted in the first season of "Pop Idol"

Just finished 'The Way of the Peaceful Warrior' by Dan Millman. While his character got on my nerves a bit, it was a great way to deliver a very wholesome message. Spot on..

Hi - I started reading "Bamboo Palace" but couldn't get into it. May come back to it later. It is about Laos and the Laotian royal family.

Then was given "Not For Sale". Good. Interesting. It is about the slave trade currently occurring in the world and human trafficking. From a group in the USA working to stop it - so worth reading and supporting. But a bit serious and related to the work I am doing and as I feel I need an escape I have also started reading:

"Genghis Khan and the making of the modern world". About Genghis Khan and his rule and the building of his amazing empire. Really good so far and I am quickly getting through it. I think there is at least a couple people in here that would like it.

See ya

I'm reading The Dice Man as it was recommended to me by an ex-pat I met whilst in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. That was a year ago and I've only just picked up a copy, so by this rate I'll have it finished by 2010 frantics.gif

I went to Egypt and now I am reading Palace Walk by Naguib Mahfouz, an Egyptian Nobel Prize winning author. It is really good. I love the way the story transitions from one person's tale to the next person's.

I am reading a collection of short stories by Nikolai Gogol that is titled The Overcoat and includes his famous short story of the same title. These stories are a quick read, and are excellent for short plane trips.

Peace,
Loven

Finished Harry Potter 7. Great way to tie up all the loose ends. It wasn't as gorey as I expected, which is good!

Read a spectacular book by Francine Rivers: Redeeming Love. It is set in the California Gold Rush days. It might be more of a chic-flick book, but maybe some guys out there would get into it too. Harsh reality of life in that era with a love story woven in.

Yes, I finished the Harry Potter last book about 1.5 months ago and I was very happy with the endng.

With all the hype around what WAS going to happen it was great to see that it wasn't like that at all.....they managed to keep it out of the press enough that it made reading the last book very enjoyable.

Finished reading about Genghis Khan. Really really liked that book and would highly recommend it.

Now reading "Democracy, Shaken & Stirred" by Win Lyovarin. Very good also. Fictional characters going through the real events of Thai democracy over the past 50 years. Entertaining and informative as well. I like it, but have an interest in Thai politics and history - so not sure if it is for everyone.
