QUOTE(introducinlyric @ Dec 4 2007, 08:27 PM) about to begin Frances Mayes "A year in the world" love in her acknowledgments the part that reads " The wild seed of this book took root long ago,and i offer mille grazie to my father, who said the family motto should be "packing and unpacking", and to my mother , who always said,"go" i think thats really cool!! seems like a book i will no doubt love
OK, I admit, this is an old post above...and I'm way behind on this thread... But did you read it? I started this book, and was very excited about it. But I have to say, I got a bit bored and I haven't gone back to it. What did you think of it? p.s. Now reading "When in France". Just finished, "Getting Stoned with Savages".

So anyway, seeing as I haven't gatecrashed a topic for a long time now, as we were behaving ourselves! I did want to ask has anyone ever noticed on King of the Hill that Bobby has a Bart Simpson doll on his dresser? I just thought that was funny... So anyway, sorry! Back to the topic at hand! Not that I have anything to add right now...

Yeah it is actually quite different from the film, and I love the movie so I was obviously expecting the book to be the same! But nope! Its actually a really nice read, if you like that sort of thing! There is a lot about lifestyles and meeting friends and going to the market and doing work on the house they still buy (so thats the same, just not with the Polish gang!)

Ha ha you are turning into a right little French Madame! Oh, gosh...I'm an absolute Francophile. I've got dozens of books about Paris and France, dozens! I love, love, love, travel books though. Can't get my nose out of them. I bought "When in France" and a signed copy of "Merde Happens" by Stephen Clarke (one of my favs) at the Canadian bookstore "The Abbey" in Paris. So "Merde Happens" will be next.
