Hey everyone, I'm planning on traveling around the world for a year or maybe two, starting next summer...

So here is my plan:
Starting somewhere..
Ending up somewhere frantics.gif

No I'm not quite sure yet which countries I will travel to, that's why I have some questions..
I would like to take a around the world ticket and travel to maybe 3 to 4 countries (continents)..

Is it possible to backpack in the Caribbean?
Are there small ferries or something like that from island to island?
Boats for tourists that I would be able to take?
Is it possible to find a job in some hotel for some days?
Maybe just cleaning dishes?

Is it save to travel the islands alone, sleep in a tent most of the time (is it even allowed)?

Looking forward to some answers...

Okay just did a spot of research here - apparently there is fairly good camping in the US and British Virgin Islands, which do have decent inter-island transport for the most part, as well as nearby Puerto Rico [which i'm fairly sure you'd have to fly to]. I think this is probably as close to what you were looking for as I can think of, pristine beaches and tents! I have NO idea about any other type of inter-island transport, but if you're going to find it it'll probably be in that area.. I've only been to St. Thomas in the USVI and Tortola in the BVI, but both are very nice islands [even if the former is a little bit plastic!]

I know cruising isnt want you are looking for, but I was just throwing it out there that it might be the cheapest option first off.. do 3 back to back for $1500, hit 15 different places in 3 weeks.. then buy airfare and go to one or two for an extended period.

The other thing is for cheaper you would probably want to explore some of the countries like the Bahamas that are made up of hundreds of tiny islands. Transport around those would be much easier than from other countries.
