Hi Guys, I love to travel and going to new places. I am planning to go to Las Vegas this weekend, but I never been there in past. So I need some tips regarding Las Vegas as a tourist place. Can you guys tell me the list of not to miss places in Las Vegas with other details necessary to trip.

There's two things you want to know about Vegas before you go. The Casino Strip that has all the mega resorts is not the original strip of the Bugsy Seagal days. The original strip is the Freemont Area of the old, downtown area of Vegas. If you choose to go to the Freemont area, be careful, its a high crime rate area. There area has some interesting things to see there, but keep in mind, be careful.
The casino strip off of Las Vegas Drive is safe to walk the length of and see some pretty interesting buildings. The MGM Grand is the largest casino in the world and the bronze lyon out front is the largest, single casting statue in the world. New York New York has a very touching memorial to the victims of 9/11. During and after the tragedy, New York New York became the western U.S. point of honoring the victims. The Luxor is the largest pryamid in the world, etc.
Take a drive out to Red Rock Canyon on the southwest side of town. And another drive out to the Valley Of Fire, about an hour and a half northeast of town if you like geology.
If you like Jazz, check out the radio station, 105.7 the Oasis, website. They list all the free jazz concerts in town, and list all the big name performers who are having concerts at the various casinos.
One other thing, you're coming in during the Peak Season, so expects things to be pricey.
Other than that, come to town and have a great time.
Chris....

QUOTE(semi-backpacker @ Feb 15 2008, 09:26 AM) A little known budget treasure can be found outside of the strip, heading towards Arizona. A few minutes past Lake Meade, you will see signs for a $29 helicopter ride!! It is sooo worth it. For a few bucks more, the helicopter flies you over lake meade and the Hoover Dam, which is absolutely breathtaking. My friend and I found this place by accident on the way back to Arizona from Vegas and it was the highlight of our trip!! Check out my blogs!thankx for that info semi- backpacker , that is cheap at $29 and as im heading to america later this year its something i will definately give some thought too sounds amazing. ive travelled california , nevada , arizona , mexico & florida extensively with yearly family trips but this time im heading there with a friend and am looking into doing different things and seeing things i might of missed
