Anyone travelled to / from Paragay and Bolivia by bus? Is it really as awful as my paraguayan pals keep telling me? I was thinking about Asu- Cochabamba, then Santa Cruz- Sucre and then fly to La Paz and fly back to Asuncion..comments welcome.

Here's a really good blog about it:

Looks pretty intense to me! But definitely doable.

It's a really long slog, but I'm under the impression that the best way is still through Argentina; La Paz, Potosi, Villazon/La Quiaca, Jujuy, Metan then cross the Argentine Chaco to Resistencia and up to Asuncion. Shouldn't take more than a couple of days.

Aye it's an alright journey. Through Argentina is the comfiest by far. Their buses are fantastic. Bolivian ones were a bit rougher. I saw the blog quoted and the same happened to us in Ciudad. Be careful if you go. Always get off before bridge and stamp in/out. We were lucky. We only got a $10 fine for 3 of us.
