Hello there, my name is Christian and I am 18 years old. I will be doing another interrail trip this year (once again alone!) and my budget is low so I thought I would go to somewhere in Eastern Europe.

If anyone has tried this I kindly ask them if they could advice me on certain destinations that could be characterized as:
Giving a good value for your money
relatively safe

also do you recommend a specific hostel you have been to?

Croatia is great. I can also recommend Hungary. Value for money was great but it's been some time since I've been. Haven't been around much else of that area, more western.

Try taking a look at costs through some websites and maybe it will help you decide what suits your budget best.

Christian, my housemate has just come back from Croatia and Bosnia. It was not quite as cheap as she imagined - she said beer was quite pricey - but I imagine if you avoid the tourist areas you'd be able to live quite cheaply still. She reported that she felt as safe as anywhere she'd been in Europe, and that the sights were beautiful. Might be worth a look?

And in case you're wondering, no, we don't all work for the "former Yugoslavia tourist board"
